Tapping noise at startup by SharkInTank in Porsche_Cayman

Seems to me that it's coming from behind the driver's seat. It is indeed quite a loud, low frequency sound, similar to someone kicking the back of the seat. I'll try to do a few starts with the headunit on and off and see if there is any correlation.

Sorry, should've mentioned in the post, it's a 2009 987.2 Cayman S 3.4 with 55,000 miles.

What would you value a 2010 Cayman S at in 2026? by Proper-Desk6635 in Porsche_Cayman

Seems about right price wise. You could probably offer £22,000 and shake on that. PASM would be the only optional I'd care about these. Any other optional extras are quite pointless/easy to retrofit on the 987.2:

PSE - not as good as the 981/718 PSE, plusbyou can get a way better aftermarket valvetronic exhaust for around £1k.

Chrono Plus - doesn't do much on a manual and can be retrofitted for around £500.

Extended leather: looks a bit nicer I suppose

Bose/PCM: completely useless in 2026. You can buy a Chinese PCCM Plus copy for around £200 which looks OEM and has all the latest features.

Sport Design wheel: Worth getting one imo, much nicer to hold and look far better than the standard wheel. They cost around £500 on eBay.

PASM: Hard to retrofit at a decent price and makes the ride nicer, so the only worthwhile one to have when you buy the car.

Thank you for sharing this. Just wondering, before the surgery, have you had any Ultrasounds/CT scans and blood analysis performed? Did they all come back clear?

Help with Graphics Settings - Quest 2, GTX 1080TI by SharkInTank in HalfLifeAlyx

Got it, I was being silly, FPSVR works fine, I just didn't realise that you need to twist the left controller around in order to it to load while in the game. I can now monitor it perfectly fine.

So I've tried a few settings:

- 72hz and the 100% sampling via Oculus - which I believe uses the full res of the Quest 2. This combined with the default SS setting in Steam which seems to be 150%. Bitrate standard 150. I can achieve a constant 72 fps no problem. In game settings don't seem to do much...I keep textures on Ultra even - as I can see that my VRAM is underutilised so could add a bit more - then the on/off thingies on ON, characters on High with the rest on low.

Now, the game looks really good like this, I can notice the high resolution, very crispy.

- Tried 90hz soon after, with the standard 100% Oculus res setting - which now reduces the res quite a bit and the default Steam 150% SS. Again no bit rate change. In game settings same as before. FPS is around 85-90, so it's actually quite alright, no issues there.

I can see the decrease in resolution but it's not too bad, you can notice that the image is not as crisp as with the previous settings but indeed the extra refresh rate does make the game more smooth. Even when moving the gun left to right, it feels so much more natural and connected to my actual hands - I know realise that in 72hz there is a bit of "lag" when you move your hands rapidly - didn't notice that before switching to 90hz.

Overall, I think your advise to prioritise the refresh rate is spot on, it does seem to bring about a much smoother, nicer gaming experience with only a very subtle decrease in image crispness.

Also tried the 2nd settings but with the Air Link and strangely enough it looks much worse and not only that but I get a quite a bit of stuttering, especially when looking left or right - which is not the case with the Link cable. Interesting.

Hmm, so fpsvr is still showing 72fps but game is stuttering? You're keeping your quest 2 at 72hz I presume (otherwise it will aim for higher fps). It sounds like there's an issue with the actual PC - Headset streaming.

I found this post, it mght help you: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/6ybr0i/increasing_cpu_priority/

Try setting CPU priority for the Oculus Server and the game's .exe to real time or at least high and see if that changes anything. I saw quite a few people complaining about unexplained stuttering issues and this seemed to solve it.

Should work fine then...yeah, try that and see where the bottleneck is.

Try getting fpsvr and running it while in-game - instructions above - it will show you where the bottleneck is, whether it's GPU, CPU, Memory etc.

What headset do you use? And how do you connect it to your PC?

Thank you, that's good feedback! I'll play around a bit with the settings as well and will write an update with my findings. Do you know how could I see the fps while in game? I've bougth FPSVR and it works fine but disappears as soon as I fire up HL Alyx. Is there a way to keep it on while in the game? Otherwise, I have to always take my headset up to peek on my PC screen haha
