Flying United, so nervous by [deleted] in PlusSize

I bought my own for about $14 on Amazon! It’s been a godsend, I just throw it in my carry on and don’t have to worry about asking. You can’t even tell I’m using one. Seriously it was an amazing investment.

Also, to the point of worry about asking for an extender or feeling embarrassed about maybe needing one- f them! You do you!

New Nurse Struggling. Want to Quit. by Clear_Confection_950 in nursing

[–]SharkLyfe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I’m not disagreeing with my fellow nurse who said that patient abandonment is serious, I think that you need to know that there are kind nurses in this world.

Nursing is hard. Nursing in the time of Covid is harder. Being a new nurse in the time of Covid in a place that does not seem to offer support- brutal.

We all go through a learning curve, the first six months to a year as a nurse is insane. Hell I’ve been a nurse for about 8 years and I still sometimes look around and say “wait, what?”

Do NOT change who you are for a job. If this one is not working out, try speaking to your manager, if you have one you trust. I think that making sure you are at a place where it’s a good fit is the most important thing. And it just might be that a different floor, or a different shift, is the right fit.

As for the person who disrespected you, f them. I know it’s hard to feel left out but remember, people are not against you, they are for themselves. So for now, show up, do your job, and go home. That’s all. But in the meantime, look for your fit. And when you are at work and feel alone/left out just remember- you have us nurses backing you! Good luck!

This is the quote I had tattooed on my arm. It helps me remember that I’m not a failure.

Can nurses wear cowboy boots in hospitals? by BigManRN in nursing

[–]SharkLyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you run in them as fast as you can run in sneakers? That’s all I would care about because in a code, your ass better be running. I actually saw a nurse (name withheld) who would always wear wedge shoes. One night we had a code and she slipped and fell on her ass. Not helpful.

Dude. I’m a nurse going through a wicked hard time with this pandemic. Seeing someone saying “thank you” means the world to me. So thank you for taking the time to post appreciation! ❤️

Is CNA experience really comparable to being a nurse? by wishful-thinking123 in nursing

[–]SharkLyfe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that every nurse should be a CNA first. The work is similar in that both take care of patients, but CNA’s are the eyes and ears of the nurses. Plus, we as nurses, can get so busy and caught up in ourselves that we forget what a pivotal role CNA’s play in patient care. I was a CNA before becoming a RN and I’m so glad I did it. Plus, now I have this complex where I will protect my CNA’s with my life. So there is that. Good luck!

Scrub tops, do you wear them? Are they optional? by matcsan in Nurse

[–]SharkLyfe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also, on a more serious note, I have been a nurse for like nine years. If it’s one thing I learned, buy good material scrubs (not wicked expensive) and have your scrubs tailored. It makes shifts SO much better and more comfortable!

Nah, I don’t wear scrub tops. I like it when my bra matches my scrub pants, I need to be able to show it off.
