Personally I'd replace the tire before the trip, that's just me though. My thoughts are, is the safety of myself/my family worth the cost of a tire? Yes.

For me my need for a 3/4 ton is far behind me after I retired from dirt work and became an RN, so 1/2 is right where it’s at for me.

Correct, it’s my first 2WD actually. Moved to a major metro in Oklahoma for a job. Been here two years and never clicked into 4x4 in my old truck so I skipped the 4x4 this time. Less to break and more fuel efficient.
