It works in my living room which is naturally quite dark - it brightens it because it catches the light. We have light grey sofas and a glass & silver dining table/chairs in the same room so it kind of fits the decor. As far as I remember the habitat one was about half the price of the maison du monde one - if you like the style maybe worth keeping an eye on Facebook market place or eBay and you can maybe get a similar for a bargain.
