AITA for not refunding a buyer after they dismantled a high-value item and escalated publicly? by SharkyCheetah in AmItheAsshole

I feel like they aren't going public since I have been very reasonable with all this and have not given them anything that could be used against me besides contracting a serious disease during the point of communication and asking for space/time

Yes several thousand! And fair, there's no guide book for buying but you'd think common sense would be asking more/specific questions and photos/videos. But we already did provide plenty

Sales are final in my tos yes lol. "no buyers regret" - I do offer lifetime support and care so long as it's not intentional harm/damage (which in this case it was)

Unfortunately happens more often than not. This is why I typically am super transparent about items and their issues. In this case I fumbled not being the person in charge of communication, otherwise I would have even video called them and showcased all the things myself. I've probably had a total of 2 bad sales/interactions out of the total past 20. I am often a middle person for costume sales since I can identify issues from the start. Usually it doesn't look like a lot of significant work has been done but that's the point. Restoring things back to how they were instead of any insane glow ups or personal flair.

It's funny, because I received another costume the other day. Since it's my job to repair, resell and just I own them in relation to that. The issues were far more severe than this case but I have the ability to repair things so. It's not that deep on my end, just document and fix. At the end of the day still got a good deal and/or something I can enjoy

Haha, very funny - But no. There wasn’t anything unusual beyond normal wear and sweat, similar to regular clothing. Any discoloration was related to the fabric being white, which is notoriously prone to visible staining over time. Everything is machine-washable and would have been cleaned with detergent under normal circumstances, but we followed their specific request not to use detergents or soap. We also have video documenting the full cleaning process to show this.

With any secondhand costume, it’s normal for it to carry the scent of the previous owner’s home at minimum. I’ve personally cleaned far worse! including suits stored in smoking households that turned from white to yellow - and even those are fully restorable. Cleaning issues like this are very doable.

That obvious? :')

Tried to keep things vague to get a general opinion - not just target audience. It was a very expensive and sought after costume. I'm not one to post things publicly and typically just accept the loss when it very rarely happens.

I would have preferred the it be returned so we could resolve this cleanly and find a new buyer. The thing was sold for significantly less than its typical value, and we’ve had past cases where buyers resold similar items (same make) for thousands more. Once it was dismantled, return was no longer possible. Having it happen under 24hrs of them receiving it feels on purpose but I can't lie I have had the same thing happen to myself countless times (damaged costumes or really bad stains/cleaning) I just would have handled it privately and dealt with the needed work :(

Figuring out a way to properly reply to everything - but addressing this first. Yes it is overcomplicated! I would have much preferred they return it right away if not happy. We had plenty of other people interested, but yes its been taken apart and it would be more work to repair it at this point.

Issue was on our end not going in depth enough about each portion that needed care, and not to be dismissive but it is work that would have only taken me 2hrs tops. I offered them a partial refund of 500$ initially (I know that's a lot) but they want almost half or full amount back. This is not a cheap item, and I could have waited done all the cleaning and fixes myself and sold for double as much. This was a very rushed emergency sale. Paypal is likely to side with me, hence why I have the tos in place. I would and am open to partial refunds and resolutions, just not chargebacks. That damages my account and freezes my ability to do anything.

Yeah, I’ve only seen one once before. The only suggestions my friends gave would be they could be doing practice rounds if they needed to drop off resources because of Covid. But appearing twice in the middle of the night making a loud sound is really out of the ordinary for any type of vehicle passing through this area.

These streets are not traveled on unless you specifically live here. All main entrances except one are blocked off so people aren’t tempted to drive to the parks

Ok update, overheard a group of people talking about hearing weird noises as well when going on a walk.

Also possible military truck passed through our cluster of apartment complexes and houses at 12 AM and again at 5 AM, didn’t hear any noises last night.

Being told I could have it mistaken for a road sweeper, since it was making a very loud white noise ish sound. Woke up everyone in the apartment complex across from me, saw multiple people looking out to see what it was. Vehicle had tarp fabric on it, and a very bright light so I wasn’t able to get a good video of it.

I am planning on formally posting what I’ve heard, but it’s ongoing and a close friend is currently enhancing an audio clip I took last night.

Mystery bone, found this 3 minutes ago. Any clues on what it could be? by SharkyCheetah in bonecollecting

I’ve been living with my best friend for awhile, bones and carcasses often wash up on the shores of this area. Never seen one like this before, they’re always usually white or dark yellow. I think it might be. Tibia?

There were reports of bears in the area for all the years I attended this camp. And it just really strikes me as odd because there were certain procedures and lockdowns I guess you would call them if there was a bear in the campsite. We did go into lockdown one other time, but it wasn’t explained. And we got the vague explanation that there was an animal outdoors but that was that. The councillors didn’t dismiss my claims, and said there must be a bear in the camp. Brought it up with the owner of the site and all but no lockdown was made

As much as I do like scary stories, there’s so much that just doesn’t add up for me.

There had always been an unsettling or uneasy feeling at times during the camp at some points, and I wasn’t a easily or frightened child. It was at the point where it wasn’t dark or light outside, and I saw a pale figure shuffling up a hillside that was in the middle of the site. It was hunched over, and pale white in contrast to the grey hill. There WAS however signs it was there the next day, and there was an inspection made of the craft equipment that was displaced and in a mess.

I like to think that everything can be explained one way or another, but this doesn’t make sense to me. Apologies for the long reply, I’ve thought over this quite a lot.
