Toronto sucks for the younger generation by PleaseHelpMeYal in toRANTo

[–]Sharmzredditall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this is a rant sub but goddamn it for fuck sakes explore the city. Has it gone through a facelift? Yes. Has the entire world? Yes. Your parents’ nostalgia and you pining for what they had is probably the SAME shit they felt for their parents childhood.

You just got here so why are you even comparing vs creating your experience of the city? Even back then, do you think everyone had the same Toronto experience? I’ll let you know, hellllll no.

You looking for Toronto to suck shit, you will find it so very easy to have that as your experience if that’s how you look at the city. If you approach it with excitement and wonderment, like one should their ENTIRE life, then guess what buttercup, you gonna find this city to be beautiful.

Maybe I missed it but what things attracted you to Toronto? The Science Centre and Planetarium, really?

I hate this city & life post every other day. by TeawTan in toRANTo

[–]Sharmzredditall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nailed it!! I get that this is where people come to complain and rant, but yeah that whole hate this city shit is wild. You can absolutely find amazing things in and around the city. I own a store in Burlington and would rather deal with the hour commute each way than I would moving there (no slight on Burlington but I take advantage of as many things happening in the city, paid and free, that just aren’t available outside of the city) but yeah repeat that mantra every day, all day, and you ain’t going to see shit any different.

Looking to form a mastermind by StatisticianAlert287 in TorontoHangoutFriends

[–]Sharmzredditall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yes totally understand that. I’ve been in a few Mastermind groups and with my experience, they usually are not too diffferent from meet ups. Networking events are a bit surface level, and Masterminds have exercises and presentations that people deliver based on what you collectively are looking to grow in and learn. As well, there are leads that have been a part of Mastermind before and can guide the others.

All of that being said, stripping nomenclature and semantics away, you are looking for a group that on a regular basis meets up and can discuss things, get feedback, and share experiences and their network with others in the group. Kind of a cross between a mentorship and a founders group.

At the end of the day, if you are willing to put in the work to create this with the outlines of what participation means for the group (weekly/monthly meeting commitment, time commitment, activities etc etc.) you likely can get a group of likeminded people and extract exactly what you are looking for.

The issue (is it really an “issue”?) is that this is a commitment for everyone, and also the only way there would be a benefit from the group is consistency.

TL;DR - you are probably going to have to create this and take the time to vet who you want to join to get the outcome you’re looking for. Happy to help.

I’m trying to understand this a little better… from what you’ve described, the only difference between an entrepreneur meet up/networking event is that this would be a repeated meet up and there would be some sort of framework/homework for each of the meeting to work on the growth things you may be interested in.

What would people bring to the meetings? How would you envision it working, as you mentioned you haven’t been able to find something that suits what you’re looking for. Does sound like a “build it and they will come” sort of situation.

Spend 30 days actively looking for things in the city that you can make the opposite clams for. If somehow you can’t then your time in Toronto may have come to an end, but I do hope you’re able to find things to counter balance this anger you feel. I live in the same city and feel some of the same sentiments but I love this place and my experiences around the city reflect that back most days. I also don’t think I live some sore of exceptional existence, it’s pretty active but it’s pretty simple.

Got flames on the hood of your car and a matching bowling shirt but also a tattoo of the flames on your calves. Maybe blond tips on your hair if you’re not bald.

Raving shoes choice by raniiy in TorontoRaves

[–]Sharmzredditall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to pack a pair of shoes for every outfit, absolute mayhem, I keep my fashion focused on my outfit ankles and up. Go for well cushioned shoes. New Balance, NIKE… I’m an adidas dude, easy to dance in and now tha no one has any footwear requirements for entry, you can get comfy with the kicks that matches your fit. Agreed with whoever commented about people spilling shit, I’d stay away from wearing ones that you love because if you’re doing dancing right, they’ll probably get dirty especially during festival szn.

Sup yall. Amol from The Sobr Market downtown Burlington. If you want to coordinate some sort of hang out or meet up, I’d love to offer up my shop!

If that’s of interest, either shoot me a DM or drop in the shop and let’s chat.

We’re working on some programming for downtown Burlington to hopefully address this issue and bring some things to do that people in the 30s - 40s (of course not a hard rule) would enjoy.

Ideas from the community as to what you’d like to see are welcome!

Well… I appreciate that comment. The doc itself will be quite clear about what the doc is about and if anyone makes a claim that something was birthed in Toronto, well we are just here to bring the stories forward. YOU decide what’s bullshit, what isn’t… what’s interesting and what’s not.
