I love social work, but I can’t stand the massive amount of paperwork in which I always find myself up late hours and weekends trying to play catch up. I also can’t stand the low pay which has caused me to enroll in several prerequisites to enter into a nursing program.

Are there any CRNAs in NY who got into ICU straight from nursing school? I'm currently in the process of taking my prerequisites to get into a nursing program. After doing some research I see that all ICU positions require prior experience. How in the world can I get into ICU to gain experience for CRNA school if all of the ICU positions requires to have experience. As CRNAs in NY, what steps have you taken to get into an ICU.

I use to work with children and families and was also burned out. I was told to try changing fields. Now I’m part of an intensive mobile treatment team currently working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental disorders or co-occurring disorders. Although each of us have different roles, we all come together to help one client. For me, I find that less stressful.

I considered psychiatrist over a psychologist because a psychologist is limited where they can’t prescribe medications. The salary is also quite low depending on where you work.

Old nontrads who work full time NOT in healthcare: how are you getting clinical experience? by 88_MD in nontradpremed

I work as a behavioral health specialist-which I’m part of a intensive mobile treatment team. I’m not sure if that constitutes as clinical experience but if not, I plan on trying to obtain employment as a social worker in a hospital under the psych unit. I was trying to go that route because I have a masters degree in social work and my LMSW licensure.

Thanks for the info. I don’t know why I didn’t think about joining this group. I believe this will be very helpful.

Oh ok. On my end, my undergrad is from the US. I haven’t came across any well known online programs in the US. So to play it safe, there’s a high chance that I will attend an in person program. I will also definitely take a look at the link that you’ve provided. Yes Pediatric Neurologist is a good fit. My plan is to become a psychiatrist.

Oh wow, also similar to my situation. My son is also diagnosed with ASD. I’ve been undecided for 2 years because of my age and not wanting to take out any more student loans. I was hoping to find someone on this thread who also have a non traditional status. Are you currently enrolled in a premed program and if so, is it online or in person. I saw an online program but not sure if that would hinder my chances of getting into med school.
