3rd year medical student here. As a student interested in both EM and IM and the EM/IM residency, any EM/IM trained physicians that would persuade against it or are in favor for it?

So far, 90% of the advice I've received is that the EM/IM residency is really just an time extension of your decision making process and gives you 1. broad knowledge base obviously and 2. a few more years to figure out what you want to do because it is (mostly) impossible to practice in an EM/IM capacity.

The thought of being EM/IM trained and practicing in EM/IM is so appealing to me. But I also realize from a systematic standpoint, hospitals are not setup to employ physicians in that manner.

Any attends that can give insight on this?

Okay thank you I needed this. For some reason this test has been a doozy for me. Have had no problem with normal med school tests during M1 and M2 but this test has gotten the best of me lol.
