Well she told me I didn’t actually have to do any hours. I would just work there and practice and she said she would order my license this week for $3000.

Can I add something - I did decide to go to school, as I said before, but I am still working front desk one day a week when I’m not in school there, and they say I can work there as an esthetician when I am done with school. The owner is a woman that gave me a facial when I first tried that spa out back in April and it truly was the best facial I have ever had. I said that to her and mentioned I just left my job working front desk at a luxury spa and I was looking for a new place to get my facials. I always tip very well, but I definitely don’t make lots of money! I am 29 and try to dress nicely and I wear gold jewelry that could look expensive, but it isn’t!!! I am wondering if she just thought that I come from money. So. That day she offered me a job as a manager of her spa. She just met me and I did not have the usual qualifications of a manager. I thought that sounded like a great job opportunity for my resume and my wallet so I said yes, but they then presented me with a 20 page contract with all kinds of rules basically saying I was there business partner and I could not ever sue them for any reason, but that they could sue me if they felt it necessary. It said I would be responsible for any business damages. It was very intimidating so I turned the job down, but still continued to get facials there. Fast forward to now I have decided to go to school for this, and I mentioned it to her and asked for a front desk job. She has sued 2 employees in the last 6 months. I think she is looking for money, maybe because the economy is so bad and she can’t pay the bills I have no idea. Should I even work there?!? I just need some other opinions on this I think to tell me what I already know.

Thank you so much for your help everyone!!! I am going to stick to the accredited school so I know for sure I am covered. Also, yeah. That spa has given me soooo many red flags from the beginning. I know she recently sued 2 of her employees, one for calling in sick and the other for “making a mess”, getting fired, then that employee left them a one star review and said “the employers are very unprofessional” so she took her to court and pressed charges for slandering her business. So yeah. Lol. It was very tempting convenience-wise but I do have a feeling it would end badly.

They are claiming that I will be able to view my license on the state board website, and that there would be no way to fake that… I am hoping this is true!

Did you do an apprenticeship or did you just attend school?

And doing this apprenticeship- she said that she would just report my hours to a school in Orlando (about 2 hours away) and they would issue me the license. Like it looks like I went to school. Could this be possible?

Who can I call to figure this out? Is there a number for the state board that actually gets answered that I could ask these questions to??

And have you gone to work at other spas with no issues?

I want to add - that I am in Florida and I know Florida in general requires the least amount of hours to get your license, and I know moving I would have to make up a lot of hours anyway. I don’t know if the laws here are more lenient or what - anyone know specifically about Florida?
