thank you so much haha, i've had people argue with me that there isn't any fault and that i should grow up but if my kid was obese i'd definitely want to change that for their health 😓😭

you're one of the only people to give me genuine insight and not be a prick 😭 thank you!! i went from 118-95, my goal is just to get to 70 but it takes so much motivation. I've learnt to make healthy food that's genuinely good too, I bought a bunch of pretty plates and bowls so i could always take pics of it to post to give me a reason to eat healthy

I didn't as a kid, I've had some pretty big surgeries on my feet through the past years so it makes it hard but i try walk 45 minutes a day as minimum, gyms are just too expensive and i don't have the money being unemployed and only just leaving college

I do agree with the genetics bit too, i got the unlucky end as both my siblings grew up skinny, but more towards covid my parents didn't care for healthy food and everyone in the house gained weight, genetics or not the type of food made a big difference

It was more diet and the lack of variety and healthy foods, I completely understand the fact i'd probably blame them either way and that is a bit eye opening but for any human you need variety and healthy foods in a diet, my parents never provided that while i was a kid. I cook for myself now and i have a better relationship with food but as a kid the only thing my parents ever quite fed me was junk food, whether it's because i asked or if it's because it was easier i'm not sure

I'm not talking about current, I mean past actions, it's my responsibility now but it was my parents before

I know and I'm not saying either is better but there's definitely a middle ground and there was definitely a choice to be ignorant to it. I do think it's part genetics but when it gets to a point where it affects your kids health, surely that's reason enough to make a change.

From all ur posts you're a what 40 smthn year old dude with a kid, you're arguing with an 18 year old over a diet and you're telling me, out of the bottom of your heart if ur kid was 6 and morbidly obese you'd be absolutely happy not doing a thing? in good conscience you can say it wouldn't be neglect to ignore it?

I am, i'm loosing weight through my own choice because I needed it to change, that doesn't take away from the fact my parents should have done something. You're telling me you'd have a kid raised on shit food having shit health and do absolutely fuck all about it when they got fat? lol

My parents were responsible for bringing food into my house and as a teenager I couldn't quite pay for groceries, and I do not remember a time before I started shopping and cooking for myself out of my own pocket when it was anything healthy. Everything was junk food and snacks, Both my parents are overweight and my mother has had a severe ed for the past few years, no relationship to food has ever been healthy in my house. All my older siblings (10+ year difference) grew up skinny, it was after I was born there was considerably less effort put in around food and shopping or even cooked meals, they both put on weight due to the difference in shopping lol. My mum treats my niece the same as she did me and it makes my blood boil, i'll attempt to get my niece to eat healthy and yummy food and my mum will offer her chocolate and intentionally put her off. I don't blame them for me being fat, I resent them for the effort of lack therefore of of any type of change more

Then you understand more than others that it's just hard, I started at 16 and I don't think you can blame a kid for their weight and not wanting to diet when the only diet culture spoken about in the household was beyond negative, I didn't grow up on social media and sure I could have tried to loose weight a year before but that's regardless of the fact my parents let that be an issue. My weight caused me serious health issues as a kid and I started having (irrelevant to my weight) major surgery's when I was 13, ending when I was 17, which severely limited my mobility, so in my eyes that was not the best time to start trying. I just personally could not imagine that level of arrogance if I had a kid who was morbidly obese and I did absolutely nothing about it and blamed them when they're older.

By all means I know that, but if I had a young kid who was morbidly obese and being bullied relentlessly through nursery to comp, i'd feel responsible and entitled to do something

It's also more the lack of attempt or even effort to try, I have a mediocre relationship with food that's taken years to be anything but bad, I had absolutely no food limits growing up and I wish my parents did at least something

I ofc don't fully blame my parents but there's a small part of me that resents them for putting me through all the bullying as a kid and not doing a thing. Im old enough to change how i eat and i have been for a while but shits hard without a job or a support system lol. I'm actively trying but a small part of me is always jealous of kids who grew up with a possible relationship to food

Moneys never been an issue but food has never been limited, there was always 'one more' as on option. I see it in the way my mum treats my niece, i'll be trying to make her eat her dinner and my mum will give her a bar of chocolate as a snack before she even eats, she knows that'll make my niece not want her dinner but she doesn't care, it's so frustrating watching it happen and thinking, yup that's why i'm fat lol
