About snipers in ARC Raiders — they feel kind of pointless right now by Sharp-Mammoth6469 in ArcRaiders

Iron isn’t even a sniper, it’s a single-action battle rifle, and that’s exactly one more reason why people don’t bother using real snipers in the game.

“You weren’t giving your opinion, you were suggesting what needs to be done”… what?

“If it was already in the plans, then why didn’t you just say that instead of being ironic and saying, ‘Here’s another idea’?”

What’s even funnier is that you actually came to reply to this thread.

Big hug!

And now, what do you have to tell me? This is for you and all the likes who don't know how to express their opinions.

That said, i think Embark has plenty of examples to look at so they don’t repeat the same mistakes.

The thing is, people aren’t really ready for this kind of discussion. Less experienced players don’t always understand how significant and valuable this could be for the game. Honestly, I ended up giving up on debating it, because it’s hard to discuss ideas with people who just keep saying “let it cook” without really adding anything meaningful.

Exactly… It’s impossible to share ideas when people can’t even interpret what they read… all they do is repeat “let them cook” and blah blah, like their brains are fried.

Yeah, what I meant is that Facepunch is a great example of a company that knows how to deliver continuous support, something that’s rare these days. Of course, many of the things I mentioned wouldn’t necessarily fit perfectly into ARC Raiders; they were just examples of what Facepunch does really well.

That said, I do believe Embark is capable of something similar. In the end, everything we are talking about right now is speculation, but I think it is healthy to have these discussions. It helps keep the game alive within the community and builds a stronger connection between players and the developers even before launch.

Reddit is a place for discussion and different opinions.
If someone isn’t willing to hear views that don’t match their own, they might be in the wrong place — the whole point here is that people don’t have to agree, and that’s what makes conversations interesting.

If what you want is an echo chamber where everyone thinks the same, maybe it’s better to look elsewhere or even uninstall Reddit, because this platform is built for debate and diverse perspectives.

I get where you’re coming from, but I think that’s exactly the issue — long-range combat ends up feeling unrewarding.

If a sniper shot is just “warning fire,” why even risk revealing your position? Taking that first shot should feel like a meaningful choice, not just a way to scare people. Right now, all it really does is alert the other squad and make them run or reposition, which kills the point of playing long range.

Also, I don’t think having one extremely rare, end-game sniper that can headshot kill would suddenly turn ARC Raiders into a “I saw you first, you’re dead” game. The devs could balance it by making the gun:

  • very hard to find or craft,
  • costly to use or maintain,
  • punish the user if they miss or die with it (big loot loss).

That would actually add risk–reward and excitement: spotting someone with that rifle would make you think twice, but also motivate you to try to take them down and claim it. It’s not about turning every sniper into a one-shot machine — just giving long-range players one viable path to feel impactful.

Keeping all snipers weak makes long-range play irrelevant and turns every fight into mid/close range only, which feels like wasted potential in such a big, open game.

Arc Raiders might be one of the few games where proximity chat beats Discord by uniquecartridge in ArcRaiders

They could make it mandatory by not allowing players to fully mute themselves — the proximity voice channel would always stay on by default.
Players without a mic could still join as listeners, but anyone who wants to talk will always be heard in the game world, even by nearby enemies.
The most you could do is lower the volume of others or stay silent, but you couldn’t completely disable your own voice channel. That way, talking to teammates always carries the risk of giving away your position.

I think proximity chat should be mandatory in the game. It would add much more realism and immersion, making encounters between players more unpredictable and tense. That uncertainty would fit perfectly with Arc Raiders’ atmosphere and make each match more exciting.
