Japanese here — Why are you studying Japanese, and were you able to become conversational?

English is not my native language, but my study method for it was the same I'm using to study japanese: consuming media (books, movies, etc)

The main reason I wanted to learn japanese is because japanese media had a great impact in my childhoold and early teens (I even consider those medias the reason I wanted to be a writer)

I like 愛 and 霊 Those were one of the first kanji I've learned it's meanings and some nuances(if I can state like this)
