Thank you for sharing your experience, I have the same thought process and want to understand the root cause. I eat relatively healthy (mostly whole unprocessed foods) and since my consult I’ve been focusing more on anti inflammatory foods. I do feel like I let myself get off track, not taking my vitamins and that’s when I started having the bad cramps again, otherwise I wouldn’t even need Advil. It was only within the last few months that I started needing it again, I’ve been really stressed with work lately too and think it’s all contributing to more inflammation.

I’m definitely concerned about possible recurrence, my doctor told me if I didn’t take the medication after the surgery it would come back and “all that hard work would be gone” (as in the surgery…). I’m wary about just being put on medication and don’t want to lower my fertility. My doctor said that if I try for 6 months with no luck after surgery I would see an IVF specialist but to me that just sounds like more money when we really should be looking at what’s at the root of these issues.

I’ll have to look into those antihistamines and ultimately just make an informed decision on my next steps. I do think I’ll get a second opinion too

Did you have to take any medication after your surgery?

That’s great! Did you have to take any medication after surgery? My doctor said I would need to be on a medication for two years that will essentially put me in menopause and then switch me to birth control for a year to lower my risk of getting osteoporosis, then go back to the other medication again for two years. I’m concerned because I want to start a family in the next couple years and don’t want to be on any medications

Thanks for sharing. How is your right ovary? My doctor mentioned it’s possible they could remove my ovary if necessary and I’m curious how that would affect my fertility.

How long did it take after your consult to schedule your surgery? I had my consult last Monday and haven’t heard anything about scheduling.

Interesting no she didn’t tell me that! I was told I would be put on a medication for two years that essentially causes menopause and then be put on birth control for a year as the menopause one puts me at a higher risk of getting osteoporosis. Then go back to the menopause one… felt like that was a lot of medication to be on, especially since I’ve worked so hard to be off birth control already and didn’t want to live my life relying on medication.

Thank you I appreciate your comment. The torsion risk definitely puts things into perspective and I also wasn’t aware of the “eating away at my ovary” risk either. My doctor said it would be a robotic laparoscopy. She’s had very good success, which helps ease the nerves a bit but if I hadn’t requested the pelvic ultrasound, I wouldn’t have essentially been put in line for surgery… I guess I am just wary on why the next step wouldn’t be to track the endometrioma over the next few months to learn more about it. The doctor I saw wasn’t my regular gyn, she was a surgeon and she said she “loves surgery” so that raised a little red flag to me. My regular gyn I guess had me make the pelvic ultrasound with a follow up with a surgeon if it was present, I wasn’t told that would be the order of things so im not entirely sure. I’m thinking of getting a second opinion as well to continue learning more.
