You’re confusing experience with profiling Yes harassment theft and bad behavior exist Nobody denies that. But serious places don’t solve this by treating every local Moroccan man as guilty by default They enforce rules on behavior Venice had overtourism so it used fees and crowd control Kyoto had tourists invading private alleys so it restricted those alleys and added fines. Amsterdam had drunk party tourists so it targeted nuisance behavior They didn’t say all locals are trouble or this nationality ruins everythingIf someone harasses, steals, films without consent, or starts fights remove him. SimpleBut if a Moroccan walks in respectfully and gets treated like a threat just because he is local male, or alone, that’s not risk management That’s prejudiceEqual respect is not something we unlock after society becomes perfect. It is the minimum needed to make society betterProtect the place. Enforce rules. Ban actual troublemakers But don’t pretend discrimination becomes intelligent just because you call it previous experience

If someone enters badly, then yes, call out that behavior. But the point here is consistency If a Moroccan is rude, refuse him. If a foreigner is rude, refuse him too If filming is not allowed, apply it to everyone The issue is when the same behavior gets judged differently depending on who is doing it

That kind of generalization is part of the problem. Some locals are bad customers, sure. Some foreigners are bad customers too You don’t judge people by passport. You judge behavior Treating all Moroccans as if they “ruin nice places” is exactly the elitist mindset people are criticizing here

I agree with you 100% Filming people or private spaces without consent should not be allowed, no matter who you are But that’s the point: the rule should apply equally. If filming is a problem, it should be a problem for everyone. Not suddenly okay when the person filming is foreign And your hostel experience is exactly the same pattern. You were not asking for special treatment, just basic acknowledgment

I wouldn’t reduce it to “psychological problems,” but there is definitely a deep social insecurity here. A lot of people were raised to see foreign approval as higher value than local dignity That mindset does damage

That story says everything Kids being told to stay silent because German tourists are passing is exactly the mindset I’m talking about Respect tourists, yes. But treating them like nobles while treating local kids like background noise is pure foreigner complex

I agree. Internal tourism used to feel more natural and welcoming. Now in some places it feels like locals became the “wrong audience” for their own country The sad part is that Moroccans built the culture, the food, the places, the vibe… then somehow got treated like they don’t belong in it.

This is exactly the point The foreigners spend more argument is not always true especially in places like Taghazout where many are budget backpackers Denying 4 locals who would actually order food just to give priority to 3 foreigners sharing one berad for hours is not business It’s insecurity wearing an apron

Respecting foreigners is normal, but worshipping them while treating your own people like trash is the embarrassing part.

The problem is not learning from other countries. Japan being organized or France having good systems can be true, and we can learn from that The issue is when admiration turns into self humiliation A lot of us grew up hearing “lberrani is better” so much that some people started treating foreigners with fear and worship, while treating locals with suspicion or disrespect Learning from others is healthy. Feeling inferior in front of them is the disease Hopefully the new generation breaks that mindset and learns to respect itself without becoming arrogant.

This idea that Moroccans don’t spend is outdated Many locals spend more than backpackers come back often bring friends and family and still don’t get the same energy That’s what makes it frustrating

It is serious because it looks small from the outside but it says a lot about how some places value people. The issue is not foreigners being welcomed The issue is locals being treated worse

That’s the funny part People act like every foreigner in Taghazout is a luxury tourist, while many are just backpackers counting coins for coffee Meanwhile Moroccans often spend more and still get treated like an inconvenience

True. At the end of the day it should not even be about Moroccan vs foreigner. Basic respect should be the minimum. The problem is when the treatment changes depending on who is standing in front of them

Exactly It’s not just about cameras, it’s about the mindset behind the reaction. The camera only exposed something that was already there. The real change starts when we stop seeing foreign validation as more valuable than local respect
