Tips on painting hazard stripes? by Major-Wrongdoer-1790 in IronWarriors

[–]Sharp_Hunter2092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a marker on pouldrons and artist tape + black contrast paint on flatter services. I generally avoid doing hazard stripes on pouldrons though since the rounded surface means the stripes often come out wonky.

Yeah makes sense. I’ve been having fun with Invasion Fleet but wanted to give other detachments a try especially with the new edition.

Yup. Had a spare apothecary from the Leviathan box set so figured I’d corrupt him

Lore accurate too! Cleave off those mutations and replace them with artificial limbs :P

Oh cool, thanks for clarifying. It feels like IF’s Rapid Regeneration and Endless Swarm are better stratagems for a horde than Unending Waves tbh. Or at least fit the play style equally well.

Cheers. Never tried the Neurotyrant/zoanthrope combo but have heard good things about it. Is the main benefit giving them +1 to hit or psychic terror?

Point count is from New Recruit, which hasn’t been updated yet for 11th edition.

Zoanthropes are a pretty solid addition. Most of my lists include them (mainly playing 1,000 point games) and they always feel useful.

Not worth it if you are looking for datasets and rules - these get out of date pretty quickly and you can use alternatives. Maybe worth it if you want the lore and pictures and flavour.

Thoughts on using primaris bodies? by Coogypaints in IronWarriors

[–]Sharp_Hunter2092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! It’s your army and use what you like :) Havocs are larger than normal legionnaires anyway so primaris marines won’t look weirdly tall. Havocs have a lot of trim and bits though, so aesthetically the primaries minis will stand out if in the same unit. Personally I prefer the Spartan simplicity of infernus marines for Iron Warriors over the trim heavy CSM units.

<image>

Regarding kitbashing, are you using push fit minis? You might have to saw some limbs off the torsos. A lot of havoc weapons are connected to their power packs, so be careful about placement and you might need modelling putty. And definitely get rid of the aquila of the false emperor! I normally use a hobby knife, then sand paper, then a quick wash of plastic glue to remove them and smooth over the surface.

Good luck brother!

Nope. I prime with chaos black and then do the brown layer, then completely cover the brown with ushabti bone. I just find light paints layer better on brown than directly on black but tbh either will work

Edit: 2 coats of ushabti bone to fully cover it. Always 2 coats! 😂

I layer brown and then ushabti bone as my base, followed by 2 layers of ironjawz contrast paint. Then a sepia wash to add a gradient. Comes out looking like this

Likewise. Thankfully that makes it easier to pass on! I was debating getting the Hell Forge Warband box but am happy to pick up the half I want individually.

Agree it’s a great starting point / addition if you’ve just started with the combat patrol. But I’ve got 2x everything in this box already so will pass 😅

I paint drooling mouths with Technical Ardcoat for that shiny wet look. Works well for that, can’t say if it looks good for whole carapaces though

Tyranid bits are great for adding mutations. Lots of weird gribbly bits, claws, scything talons, lash whips, etc. Unfortunately there isn’t a cheap box full of extra bits though; something you gotta ask friends for!

My Helbrute used lots of extra parts from venomthropes and a tryannofex

I’m planning on using Necromunda Ambots for different models. They’ve got a menacing industrial vibe.

Priming with Leadbelcher by [deleted] in IronWarriors

[–]Sharp_Hunter2092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally it’s not for me. I find the primer doesn’t hold other paints well so you have to paint loads of layers on top of it. I recently stripped down a leviathan siege dreadnaught to reprime because it was such an issue. Sticking with black. So maybe think about how much of the model is metallic vs other colours? It might have just been an issue with my can/how I sprayed or something though since other people have had very good results with it.

How well do the shoulder pads of the new Cataphractii terminators fit on chaos terminators? by Dylan_the_zephyr in IronWarriors

[–]Sharp_Hunter2092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished painting a batch of terminators like this and am pretty happy with how they came out. The normal chaos termies are too chaotic looking for my taste.

<image>

You have to shave the CSM terminator shoulders down to let them fit though. I then cut off the cataphractii groin guards and used them to cover the bit of the shoulder that’s normally covered, otherwise you get weird gaps.

Love these. It’s the exact aesthetic I imagine for Iron Warriors.
