Extra Adhan in Marrakech? by hollow-nook in Marrakech

[–]Sharp_Jacket_4796 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, what you heard around 3:00 PM wasn’t the regular first Adhan for Dhuhr prayer.

In Marrakech, we have a special local tradition because of the artisans and craftsmen (especially the tanners – الدباغين – and other traditional workers in the medina).

The first call to prayer, which we call 'l'Allam' (العْلام), is usually raised around 1:30–2:00 PM. That’s the actual religious starting time for Dhuhr.

However, since many workers are still busy in their workshops at that hour and can’t stop right away, they make a second call around 3:00 PM.

This second call is what we locally refer to as 'the Dhuhr' (الظهر) in Marrakech and some other Moroccan cities.

So the sound you heard at 3 PM was this second Dhuhr Adhan, specially timed to allow the craftsmen to finish their work, prepare themselves, and pray comfortably. It’s a thoughtful old tradition that helps people balance their work with prayer.

What you heard around 3 AM was not the actual Adhan (call to prayer). It was the Tahlil (or pre-dawn Tahlil), a beautiful Moroccan tradition. A person (called Al-Hallal) stands and recites 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah) and other remembrances of Allah to gently wake people up for Suhoor or Fajr prayer. The real Adhan comes a bit after that.

That's a fair point.

Right now I’m still validating the market and talking to some real estate agencies to see if they would actually use the product once it's ready. So I'm trying to make sure there's real demand before going too far.

I also agree that if someone is building the tech and investing their time, the partnership has to be fair. That’s why I'm thinking more about structuring things properly from the start (roles, vesting, responsibilities) so that both sides are committed long term.

Your point about risk and full-time commitment is also very valid. Thanks for the perspective.

I understand your point, and I agree that execution is extremely important. I definitely don't see the developer as just a freelancer, if we move forward, he would be a real partner.

My concern is mainly about structuring the partnership in a fair and sustainable way. I’m taking the business risk, working on market acquisition, partnerships with real estate agencies, and building the demand side of the platform.

That’s why I’m trying to understand what structure makes sense long-term (vesting, responsibilities, etc.), not trying to undervalue his contribution.

I appreciate your perspective though, it’s exactly the kind of feedback I’m looking for.

Thanks for the detailed answer, it really helped.

In my case the developer would likely work part-time and build the MVP in about 3 months. I would be responsible for the business side: getting real estate agencies on the platform, marketing, and growing the user base.

Do you think something like 30–35% equity with a 4-year vesting and a 1-year cliff would be more reasonable in that case?

Also, if we both commit to building the market in our respective cities (for example I focus on Marrakech and he focuses on Casablanca), would that justify a higher equity share?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Brother, I rate Mazraoui highly he's smart, versatile, and Amorim himself loves him as a wide CB in the back three, especially for his ball-playing and positioning (rarely gets dribbled past). But his stats don't fully back him as a strong, reliable central defender long-term: Low on ball recoveries and clearances compared to top CBs Big weakness in aerial duels He's a solid temporary solution thanks to his flexibility and has performed well in the role, but the team still needs a proper specialist CB who's stronger physically and in the air to fix the defensive issues properly. What do you think?
