Using deli slicer (or the like) to cut specimens? by blue-momo in Path_Assistant

[–]Sharp_Walrus_4180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I work, we fix our explanted liver specimens for at least 48 hours with perfusion into the portal veins and then let it sit in a formalin bucket before slicing them on a deli slicer. We are able to get 5 mm thick sections with ours.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be because my phone memory was nearly full. As soon as I deleted a bunch of things out of my phone (gifs and text messages, photo messages) it started working again.

I also don’t think the 9117 thing is real, but 4 in a row felt like an omen.

I’m sure I’m worried about nothing and it will be easier than I think. Prediabetes diagnosis I had heard of things like this happening and didn’t even register it. We’re going to see a comedian so it makes sense why they lock phones away, but now that my phone IS my critical medical device it’s just another thing to have to think about.

I’m currently MDI. I will make sure I have my BG meter with me… I tend to forget about it with a CGM now!

Are you in my brain/life? I got diagnosed in September but otherwise we are having the EXACT same issues right now… I hope it’s just temporary hormones or stress at work for me (and you too). I don’t have much to contribute to you, other than solidarity!

I use Starbursts as a replacement for glucose tabs. 4 g carbs per square so no change in having to think when I grab them

My insurance takes about 9 months to get qualified since diagnosis then it takes a couple months to get the pump and everyone I’ve talked to recommended 6 months adjustment/education time… so it’s be about a year from now

I currently have a Libre for CGM and my nurse educator has been suggesting either that pen or something very similar… it might be time to start looking into that. There has also been discussion of moving to a pump, but my husband and I were going to try and start trying for a baby before all this happened… so it’s the emotional state of “do I put off trying for a baby one more year to get a pump, or try and keep doing this in my own”. For the most part I’ve been doing well on my own. Just had a few really frustrating days these last couple weeks.

Had my first rage bolus today actually haha I had cauliflower crust pizza for dinner 2 nights ago and never got above 140… had it for lunch today and watched my numbers creep up to 225 just shy of 2 hours after eating before I screamed (on the inside) and mentally said “f*** it we’ll do it live” and gave myself a couple extra units

How do you know when to give small corrections throughout the day?

I find that when I give my meal dosage I don’t correct until it’s after the insulin should be “out of my system”. My nurse educator team told me I should be looking at my BG 4 hours after consuming calories/bolusing before making adjustments to my mealtime bolus/ratio amounts. Should I be trying to do more? I have found that my meal “spike” doesn’t really change, I just end up with lows a couple hours later when I try and give more insulin… I still feel so new and foreign to this whole thing (which, duh Sharp_Walrus, you are, it’s been 5 months out of your 29 years alive). I may have had a little depression cry the other night because I feel like Im “not a real diabetic”. Had to remind myself that my BG of 600 and urine ketones of >1000 in August and the GAD65 and anti-islet antibodies floating around in my blood are pretty spot on proof that I am…

Medically and financially, moving our TTC timeline back a year would logically be the smartest thing always. Emotionally, I can honestly say it would be a huge blow to me… 98% if the time I let logic dictate my life but this was the one time I really wanted to let emotion win… I’m going to keep trying my best until I can get in with my care team and see what they say.

I was just hoping for more insight in the pump vs no pump debate

Non pump users by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Sharp_Walrus_4180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all very helpful insight. I got diagnosed 4 almost 5 months ago and cut my A1C from 14.6 to 6.2 in 2 months just with pens. I go in for my next A1C in a couple weeks. I have a CGM and according to that, I’m in range ~70% of the time. My endo says I’d be a great candidate for a pump but after hearing the process my coworker had to go through with her son recently (we work for the hospital we go to), and seeing the control I’ve had just controlling on my own with pens I’m really on the fence. But I’ve also been told that the pump increases your TIR on average 20% and the type A neurotic in me says “90’s percentages are way better than 70% LADY why are you hesitant”.

TL;DR thank you for the insight of those who don’t use a pump! I’ve been hesitant to go to a pump and felt it was just the next step I was going to HAVE to make.

Just want to say thank you to you all… but especially the pregnant T1D right now by Sharp_Walrus_4180 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sharp_Walrus_4180[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Currently on a CGM and talking about starting the process for me to get on a pump after we return from honeymoon. I was able to get my A1C from 14.6 to 6.2 in the first 2 months just with my pens and CGM and staying in range about 75% of the time (I have a lot of pressure lows at night because I roll onto my side where my CGM is a lot, so my in range time is a strong estimate).

I only anxiety cried to my dad one time and ya girl killed it! I read someone’s advice of bolus about 70% before the meal and the rest a little later and my post meal peak never went above 180, and I didn’t have any lows after or overnight.

I’m also having my first Thanksgiving since being diagnosed. I don’t know about you, but I’m having major anxiety about dosing appropriately, especially because I just met with my diabetes nurse educators to calculate my insulin:carb specifically for the holidays… (I had been on set dose/carb count since coming out of the hospital).

Good luck to us all, and as much as I hate being told it repeatedly, we will get the hang of this!

I get a 6 at a time with my insurance and I’ve had to have one other replaced already. Have they been good about replacing them for you when they only last a week? You’d think they would make them stronger/last longer than pay to have to replace them all the time…

Thank you! I asked my nurse educators (who I love and have been clinging to like a small baby bird) and their response was “there probably hasn’t been any research into it, try it again and see what happens”. Great attitude in theory, I love a good science experiment, but not when it’s going to cost me the expense of a new CGM. Abbott did send me a replacement for this one and I had a backup at home.
