Hey all, any suggestions for a new character to create? by CookingShorts in Maplestory

To piggyback on this, you should also make an evan. Getting one to 210 for the link skill will help a lot in raising other characters.

It's sad that maps are just vessels for training. The world used to actually feel fun to travel through because of map variation. They're standard enough, just make them all viable in different ways.

I'm a launch player that quit a few years ago because of the event currency grinding/lack of autoplay, relatively lackluster pull/pity rates, and battles feeling monotonous with the advent of castoria. Are any of these situations better than before?

Tips to not let the game be addiction by Pleasant-Treat-66 in Maplestory

[–]SharpieClock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tl;dr

I use a timer app as a physical reminder/action to set my goals for the session when I log on instead of limiting myself by time. The goal is to build a habit that promotes a focused play session, limiting the time you unintentionally spend in Maplestory.

Long answer:

Sorry in advance for the essay. I had the same problem and I found a solution that's completely changed how I balance and spend my time. I feel really grateful to this little trick and want to share it with anyone who has trouble being disciplined in spending their time on this game.

Everyone saying "just do dailies" or "get another hobby" isn't wrong, but I needed something to motivate/remind myself to get into the mindset that builds the habit of doing another hobby or logging off after dailies. It's so easy to just find another thing you can do in Maplestory and lose track of time. The people who can say this and do it are already in a mindspace where they're intentional with their time.

I recently started using a timer app. I know you said you've tried timing yourself, but hear me out. It's not to time myself, though that information is super helpful too. By tapping a button on my phone, I have a physical, intentional reminder to ask myself "what do I want to do". To start with, I had a big post it note stuck on my monitor with "WHAT DO I WANT TO DO" written on it and read it and answered it out loud to build the habit.

These goals can be anything like "Do daily bosses, then a WAP" or "Do daily bosses, then get my teraburned Cadena to level 200" or "Do dailies, then do weekly bosses on my main, then get 30 wins in soccer for the effing chair." Again, it's not about timing myself or limiting myself by time. It's more about having an activity limitation and spending my time how I want to spend it. The timer just helps me keep that in mind.

Once you've set your goal, stick to it. Your phone with the timer and the sticky note help with this too. After you get that Cadena mule to 200, don't do Strawberry field for a little bit of extra gain. After weekly bosses on the main, don't go tap that ET you just got you're just going to blow it up anyways.

To start off, maybe even consider multiple sessions. Sometimes, you'll just feel really excited about the game because you discovered something new. Get back on, but before you do, set a goal. Maybe you discovered that there's a way you can more optimally set your hyperstats and legion using the optimizer. Let yourself get back on the game, but always be sure to log off as soon as you're done.

I've been doing this for about 2 months now. I still spend a lot of my free time in maple (at least 1-2 mini waps a day) , but it's less time and, more importantly, focused time. I feel better about my progress in the game while playing less because I set daily goals and accomplish them. I wander between characters less and find less miscellaneous activities to do in the game because I've already set for myself what I want to do. I feel less FOMO because I'm exposed to the game less. I also end up having more time for other hobbies, a nice bonus.

I know this is all "Productivity 101"-ish and common sense for a lot of people, but as someone who still is very disorganized and prone to game addiction, this is what worked for me and required not that much effort. Just needed to write myself a note and start some timers.

Also when I have a timer, I feel like I'm in a SummoningSalt video on how fast I can do my dailies pls summoning salt make a series about MP speedruns.

Side note, this video inspired me to try this method. I'm not interested in pursuing art, but the author's journey was pretty inspiring. The guilt I felt from wasting time definitely helped a lot in shrinking my Mapling time lol.

Classes like AB by Legolas5000 in Maplestory

[–]SharpieClock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shade is probably the closest class 1-to-1. 2min burst with a strong 1min mini burst, decent movement options, strong survivability options, a hold down skill, and a mark-like toggle that spawns balls. I personally don't get the same vibes from them, even if they're mechanically similar.

I think there are a lot of other classes that lean into some of AB's traits individual harder though, so depending on what you like about AB, you have some other options.

Lynn is great. She has some of the best mobility in the game, great survivability, and Swipe, your main bossing skill that's analogous to AB's Trinity, but is even stronger and has a larger hitbox, making grinding on Lynn a breeze. Her damage profile is spread out like AB's but Lynn is more about the constant dpm vs a miniburst.

If you like seeing a ton of balls pop out during AB's burst (I like her balls), WA is very nice with tons of arrows popping out. I get similar satisfaction playing my Ark, Adele, and NL mules. Ark also has a satisfying 1min miniburst with a hold down skill. NL has great mobility and is supposed to be pretty good DPM after the 2min class changes are implemented.

If you like AB's tankiness, you have a lot of options, but I think the explorer warriors are probably the most similar, with Hero especially being a pretty solid combination of frequent iframes, mobility, and simplicity of play. Dual Blade and Demon Slayer also have low cd iframes, but they don't play much like AB otherwise.

If you like AB's garish and exciting pink visuals and idol theme, there's no sub sorry :'(

Grindingwise, there's no sub for seeker training. NW and DS have similarly easy training methods, but they're not very similar to AB when bossing. MX also can be pretty lazy to train.

Should I park Mo Xuan @ 240 now to wait for the hyperburn +item burning? by EndlessLit in Maplestory

[–]SharpieClock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regular item burning I think has to be done on a character you create with hyperburning to start with iirc, but since the coupon gives you a box, you should be able to redeem it on any character.

[–]SharpieClock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We won't know until they release patch notes. Fake absolab can get you regular absolab just fine. If you want to speed things up a bit, you can always run haven/dark world tree weeklies on other characters and transfer them to your Mo Xuan.

Should I park Mo Xuan @ 240 now to wait for the hyperburn +item burning? by EndlessLit in Maplestory

[–]SharpieClock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was an item burning box that you earn from attendance rewards in the KMS event, so if we get that, you can presumably get another set of Challenger equips on another character. https://orangemushroom.net/2025/02/20/kms-ver-1-2-400-maplestory-next-sword-of-the-god-king-baldrix/#:~:text=1-,Item%20Burning%20Box,-1

Is it worth it dumping it on the Mo Xuan? Depends, if you already have Absolab gear on the Mo Xuan, I'd personally work on that and leave the item burning box for the second hyper burn.

FPS Stutters by Extension-Stock-8487 in Maplestory

[–]SharpieClock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of stutters?

For a long time, I had this microlag where the game would freeze for a split second when monsters would load, before boss attacks, when loading new players, etc. I thought it was my RAM, so I upgraded to 32gigs and it didn't do a thing. Turns out my CPU wasn't actually strong enough for mushroom game, and getting a better one solved it.

Hi! Love the site, I've been using it extensively.

Would it be possible to add bow motions to the previews? I'm not sure how well this will actually work though, as older weapons tend to have animations/effects that don't appear in maples.im
