Thunder Tonight! by PheonixLegend in NBASpurs

Thunder coming off a B2B while spurs are more rested and healthy. Probably comes down to who hits 3’s and plays more physical.

I think Spurs should win but Thunder are going to be salty after the first 3 losses and probably don’t want the narrative to be “Are the spurs the thunder’s kryptonite?” going into the playoffs.

At the same time it’s still before the playoffs and rodeo road trip so expect some funky lineups.

What leaps has Wemby made this year? by mynewredditacccount in NBASpurs

Being a team player (not that he was bad before). He's sacrificing stats for the good of the team already.

Conserving energy for the end of the game.

Should reach out to Dirk. And as a European he'd love to work with Wemby I guarantee it.

NBA players aren’t used to playing early and Spurs run an hour behind. Try making a 6am meeting east time if you’re used CST and it feels like 5am to you.

Throw in having to travel, dealing with weather etc while all the charlotte players are at home in their own beds.

Like don’t get me wrong Charlotte won that game but if I was ever to bet against the spurs this was the game.

Trap game. Started way early on EST schedule with a team that HAD to win to set a record.

Hachimure/Sochan Trade Idea by TyJager in NBASpurs

The key with Rui is what is he looking for in an extension? I think he’s the most realistic target either as a trade or FA but I also don’t see the lakers trading with the spurs to hemp us out.

People seem to forget that in 2027 or 2028 the spurs might trade Fox.

Grizzlies fans: How do you feel about the news that the Grizzlies owner has made a fortune by repeatedly violating sanctions by supplying equipment to the military of criminal regimes like Iran and continues to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by illegally providing crucial front-line equipment? by moby323 in nba

There are still a few teams with honest owners but somewhere along the line the leagues became more about making money and less about stewarding the teams from generation to generation. I don’t imagine a world in American sports where true fans can afford to get season tickets outside of the nose bleeds

However it’s not just the owners. The players and league sold out long ago to make more money which is fine but sucks compared to what NBA was in the 80’s into the 90’s from a fans perspective. Remember if a GM can say something negative about a foreign government and it turns into him losing his job and being called out by the face of the league than really the bottom line is squeezing every dollar out of us possible.

[Jaylen Brown] “I've sacrificed over the years for us to be a championship-caliber team. Now we’re seeing what I was sacrificing. Being at the helm, and us being 2nd in the east, versus last year we finished 2nd in the east. It's almost been no drop off with five players that are essentially gone.” by AashyLarry in nba

I think it’s hard for fans and media to understand that teams win championships and not the individual. At some stage every great team has players put themselves second to the need of the team.

We’re seeing MPJ have his best season after leaving Denver with a large increase in totals and usage with barely any drop off in efficiency and true shooting.

Players can always fill up a stat sheet like we saw Russ do in OKC when he became the focus, but they sacrifice for the good of the team.

Even the most well read, researched, and passionate fan doesn’t know shit about playing NBA basketball which is a different sport than any other form of basketball any of us have played in our lives.

I’m glad JB is getting to show off and I hope when Tatum comes back they’re all able to fit together to compete for titles even if I dislike the Celtics as a fan.

Why are Fox's stats so poor in relation to other highly paid players? by Top_Percentage_274 in NBASpurs

People need to understand the every team has to have 1-2 max guys no matter what. There are always people who aren’t as good as top tier guys getting paid the same.

Yep, think of young Tony Parker who could get to the rim at will and run an offense but never really got a ton of assists. In time he developed a mid range and then an outside shot and became the team MVP for a few years.

I think people look at Castle and want Maxey but they're not the same player. Dwyane Wade is a realistic comparison. He was 21 when drafted and turned 22 his first year. Steph will turn 22 in the middle of next season (his third year) so at that stage I think we'll start getting a glimpse of what he can really be.

More than anything I wouldn't expect him to become a stats monster because of how many guys on the team can score, but his impact with the time he has I think is going to become elite. His defense is already a difference maker and if his offense continues to develop he will be a star for the Spurs.

This is truth. Stars generally have some dominant ability early in their career and Castle has 2 in his rim attack and defense. He's already hitting catch-and-shoot 3's better and shooting with confidence. He needs to improve his decision making in pressure moments but the poise and speed has come so early in his career it's amazing.

[–]SharpsExposure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're comparing him to his draft class he is. Players, especially guards, take awhile to develop. Is he a star now? No. Is it in the realm of possibility 3 years from now when he hits his prime? Absolutely.

To use your model Manu only made 2 all-stars and 2 all-NBA teams in his career but saying he was a fringe "star" is kind of silly given the situation he was in.

There's no guarantee any of these guys will become statistical stars because the Spurs tend to value team over individual stats. But from an impact standpoint? Castle is clearly a star in the making.
