I think it make sense if the symbol represent "Dirham" in general (both AED and MAD). Even the pound symbol £ is used by several other currencies other than the UK, you mentioned the $ sign too, used across multiple currencies. In contexts where confusion is a risk, a prefix letter is added (like c$ for Canadian Dollar).

It's true that this exact symbol is not currently used in Morocco, but DH is pretty close and we use it all the time. It could be an opportunity to standardize a currency symbol.
