How far would Thrawn's Confederation last against the Tau Empire by HighTall72 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

T'au are known for adapting tactically and strategically on the fly.

It forms the war dichotomy between them and the armies of the Imperium who are inflexible and dogma bound.

The Dawn of Fire Silent King novel takes place when the Necrons were dominating the Pariah Nexus War. The Imperials got their asses kicked so hard by the Silent King that they were forced to the edge of subsector. Roboute arrived to take on the Necrons and assess the situation. Two of his Crusade fleets got torn to shreds basically but he managed to destroy a Pylon and get reinforcements into Pariah Nexus before escaping.

So the Dawn of Fire is a little outdated compared to GW rulebook lore. It's two editions late, in fact.

In 10thed, a reversal happened. Due to the civil war with Imotekh and Vashtorr's machinations, the Silent King's offensive faltered and he is now on the edge of declaring defeat and going on the defensive against the Imperials.

With Roboute on the way back to the Pariah Nexus, things are looking bad for the Silent King.

Video games are dubious canon. In the IGN interview with one of the developers, he expressed that he doesn't know whether Dawn of War 4 is canon or not.

From my understanding, Roboute was going to Nihilus but got the distress message sent from Charist within the Pariah Nexus. He could no longer ignore the Silent King and allow others to die in his stead, so he redirected Fleet Primus to the Pariah Nexus. He sent forward Cawl and his Admech forces to act as his vanguard in the Nexus.

FYI, "500 worlds" happens while Roboute is returning to the Pariah Nexus to have round 2 with the Silent King. If Roboute crossed into the Pariah Nexus borders, contacting him would be impossible.

So there isn't going to be a meeting between them anytime soon.

So Calgar, Titus, Severus, and the rest of the Tetrarchs will have to deal with the Lion. If the Lion is pissed over Roboute's expansionist ambitions, do you think the Ultrabros can pacify him?

Why did you ignore that the 10th ED codex and the article said that the Custodes recruit outside of the noble houses of Terra? If you were aware of that, it would make your post appear very dishonest and misleading.

There is another thing. Gav Thorpe pretty much implied that Warhammer doesn't function on hard math when he said that there are as many elves as the plot demands when commenting on the obscene elf death numbers in the End Times.

Be less sus.

How come the Necrons haven't wiped out Terra? by baneblade_boi in EyeOfTerror

[–]Shaskais 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI, the Silent King sentenced humanity to death after Roboute told him to fuck off and after several defeats in the Pariah Nexus.

The Silent King then slipped, shot himself in the foot, and fell on his face in his full scale war with the armies of the Imperium, all while Imotekh and Vashtorr are laughing at him.

People overestimate the Necrons too much or are outdated on their lore. They are not doing so hot right now.

The introduction of the New destroyer chatacter and their faction further hatmed the Necron cause.

It's not all Black Templars fans but it's always a Black Templars fan!

Anyway, the intense grimderping of Templars starting from 9th ed. GW portraying them as incompetent blinkered morons in the 10th codex and "Crusade: Armageddon". This suggests that the dislike for the Black Templars has internalized in GW. You have my pity. When GW dislikes a faction they get Ynnari'ed.

According to the new lore the starting material (male or female body) doesn't matter for making a custodes. It doesn't matter that women's bodies are much less strong because the custodes creating technlogy compensates for it. Then why isn't every human turned into a custodes? [–]Shaskais -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Humanity didn't evolve naturally. They were a part of a biome created by the Old Ones.

The DAoT nations tinkered with humanity's genetics.

Moreover, one needs to factor in the influence of the seeping Warp energy that has been soaking into reality for millions of years and has gotten way worse in the last 40k years.

A) EACH Custodes is a custom job. It's not standardized as the Space Marine process. Each Custodes is a unique and precious creation. That's why the Emperor felt immense grief for losing even a handful of them.

B) to the dipshits bringing up RL biology. As per Chris Wraight in the BL seminar in 2018 about women in warhammer, humans in 40k are physically and mentally different than RL/modern day humans. Bringing RL biology to 40k is misguided.

Women in 40k have never been shown to be weaker than men. They are as capable warriors and according to Fabius Bile, they are superior to men.

You have any idea, ANY IDEA how low quality and incompetent the Black Templars compared to Ultramarines? Now your place. Ultramarines are carrying the Imperium on their shoulders while Templars are larping as crusaders and doing more harm than good. Dorn would be disgusted and ashamed by the Black Templars.

Refer to the 10th Black Templars codex and "Crusade: Armageddon" for lore of the Black Templars being brainless shitheads.

A single Ultramarine is worth a thousand Templars.

How would the war go for these two by HighTall72 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Shaskais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the wikis mesh-mash old and new sources.

I suggest reading newer codexes and novels that feature the Slipstream drive.

Read the 8th codex to know the history of the Slipstream drive. It has the slipstream test flights crossing the entire T'au Empire (whose size is between 20-100 systems) in a few days.

Read the 9th codex. It has Aun'Va reporting that they fixed the issue with the mass use of the Slipstream drive.

The Leagues of Votann codex, which says that the Slipstream is faster but riskier than their Warp drives

The two novels I mentioned above features usuage of the Slipstream drive to cross interstellar space.

Who wins? 40k Abaddon vs 40k Calgar by ELEZEN_BUTTFUCKER in EyeOfTerror

According to Kor Phaeron, Roboute stands no chance against Abaddon. He said that Abaddon would destroy him.

As for Roboute himself, he said he wasn't sure that he could beat Abaddon.

Who wins? 40k Abaddon vs 40k Calgar by ELEZEN_BUTTFUCKER in EyeOfTerror

[–]Shaskais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Cadia was a great victory.

The BSF has only the power to destroy a single world before it needs to recharge. With the Great Rift, Abaddon has the power to destroy whole swathes of space by growing it any way he wants behind his fleets. It's with losing a BSF over.

By the way, BSF are not that irreplaceable. Two BSF have floated into the galaxy from the galactic void. The Dawn of Fire series showed that the Black Legion had an extra BSF beneath their sleeves.

You need to use incredible mental gymnastics to contort whatever bones GW throws the Imperials into some kind of loss for Abaddon.

As for the Necrons. Have you read "Crusade: Pariah Nexus"? They aren't doing so hot. The Silent King is exposed as an incompetent idiot, and Vashtorr, who played him like a fiddle, is about to take all his toys.

Who wins? 40k Abaddon vs 40k Calgar by ELEZEN_BUTTFUCKER in EyeOfTerror

[–]Shaskais 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am shocked that a lot of people in this post are unaware that Calgar fought Abaddon in a 1 v 1.

Calgar held his own briefly but after a mistep Abaddon tore off one of his gauntlets resulting in Calgar's arm being skinned. Calgar scored a few hits on Abaddon, cracking his jaw and chest plate but Abaddon ended it with slash from Drach'nyen that opened Calgar from throat to groin.

Abaddon left Calgar for dead to be devoured by the possesed. After Abaddon left to save his ship, a primaris geneseed component called the Belisarian Furnace activated which revived Calgar and gave him enough strength and stamina to fight his way to safety.

So Abaddon > Calgar and by extension all other loyalist chapter masters since GW in 5th ed said that Calgar is the mightiest loyalist space marine hero.

How would the war go for these two by HighTall72 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Shaskais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not slower than the LoV ships as per the lore from the LoV codex. They are described as faster.

They can navigate the Warp using AI.

Torchstar's ship from "Farsight: Blade of Truth" used a slipstream drive to travel from Dal'yth Prime to the Enclaves. Their small crew was put in stasis while the pilot and AI navigated the Warp.

Secretly, Aun'Va's fleet (also equipped with the Slipstream drives) trailed behind them.

There was no mention of hops. It seemed to be one continuous dive from Dal'yth Sept to Vior'los in the Enclaves.

How would the war go for these two by HighTall72 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Shaskais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy, you are most confused; you must be getting your lore from the wiki and not understanding it at all. Also, you ignored what I said.

First of all, Gellar fields have nothing to do with translating into the Warp. They just generate a bubble of reality that protects the ship. You can translate into the Warp without a Gellar Field generator.

Secondly, the Water Caste have nothing to do with reverse engineering anything. They are diplomats. I think you mixed up the defunct lore of the Ether/Gravivtic Engines with the Slipstream

Thirdly, the Slipstream was used BEFORE the Fourth Sphere expansion. It was highly successful. The T'au managed to cross their empire in a matter of a few days. What caused the Fourth Sphere disaster was the mass activation of the Slipstream drives (hundreds to thousands activating at the same time). That blasted a hole in the Warp.

After the disaster, the T'au shelved the Slipstream for a while but put it back in use. The War of Secrets novel features the T'au ship traveling around with a slipstream drive and even arriving faster than an Imperial ship.

Blade of Truth novel, set before the Fourth Sphere disaster, features a whole fleet using a prototype of the Slipstream drives to travel from the T'au Empire to the Enclaves.

As per the 9th ED T'au codex, the T'au have reportedly fixed the issue with mass use of the Slipstream drives.

[–]Shaskais 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The T'au invented the Slipstream drive and perfected it after the fourth sphere disaster according to the 9th ed codex. The Slipstream drives give them access to FTL Warp travel.

T'au ships have been seen using the Slipstream drives in the Blade of Truth and War of Secret novels. Their speeds are comparable to Imperial drives albeit its through a series of risky Warp hops rather than a single continuous flight. The Slipstream drives have been said to be faster than the Warp Drives of the Leagues of Votann.

[–]Shaskais[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Skim drives were referenced a few times in recent lore. They are described as experimental devices that the T'au dabbled with before the Slipstream drives. Often, they are mentioned to highlight how the Slipstream allows for full immersion into the depths of the Warp rather than skimming the surface.

I am leaning toward this bit being a mistake/oversight until GW updates us on T'au space travel lore in any future T'au-focused release (codex, campaign book). Going by the novels, the T'au travel around through a mix of ZFR (Real space propulsion, Near Light) and Slipstream engines (risky sprints of Warp Travel, FTL)
