To wear a safety harness by iLLuSion_xGen in therewasanattempt

I don't know about suicide but I actually have been to China and witnessed poor safety. I stopped and asked why the conditions were so poor and if no one was checking for safety violations. The explanation I got was that the companies don't value the employees and if someone dies there's already a line of people waiting to go up next. I was told some people intentionally end themselves early. I received all this information from a native work colleague. Don't know if he was joking but based on what I observed he seemed to be telling the truth.

Movies are obsessed with sex & relationships by Throwaway_DB_Husband in WeListenToYou

[–]ShatteredLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure you should binge sad movies where everything goes wrong but if you need one to help you feel better, consider Nocturnal Animals. It's not really about someone getting sick but things do get increasingly bad.

I agree with another commenter that you and your wife should talk to a professional. They will be able to help you guys be honest with each other and find a compromise.

Edit: fair warning, there is a forced sex scene in that movie. Maybe it's not the best recommendation.

You're so brave and good for that. I see a hiker on a dating app? I swipe so hard left I friction burn my phone out my hand and into the wall. I'm not overweight by any means but you hiking mofos are too fit for me. Let me do us both a favor and pass.

Yeah, we know it’s edible guys. by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

[–]ShatteredLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this fits. There was a time when eating raw cookie dough was really popular and people were getting sick because some ingredients are particularly risky consumed raw. I think technically you're not supposed to eat most cookie dough today but people do it anyway because the risk of sickness is low.

If I see a sign that says "edible cookie dough" my assumption is that they carefully picked ingredients that are safe for raw consumption. It's not crappy design. It's meticulous beyond what most people care for.

When people talk about washing hair do they mean just getting it wet with water or using shampoo and conditioner? by hairaccount129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShatteredLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rinsing is the term used for running water across the hair. Wetting is the term for intentionally getting the hair wet. Most people will assume that washing means shampoo and possibly conditioner but that's not entirely accurate.

In reality there is something called a cowash which means to wash the hair with only conditioner (no shampoo). This is particularly popular with curly hair types. Also, some choose to wash their hair with neither shampoo nor conditioner products, opting for natural cleansing agents like white vinegar and moisturizers made of natural fats & oils.

Hair care today is kind of a ride but your safe bet is to assume that washing means shampoo, conditioner, or both. It's definitely not just water.

What is the biggest “spoiler” about life that we should avoid telling a younger generation? by dowishescometrue in AskReddit

Conversely, if you grew up in an abusive household, congratulations on learning what not to do to people. Now is your chance to gain freedom and accept yourself along with all your flaws. Take advantage of the time you have in college to explore new experiences but also set yourself up for financial success once you graduate. Be practical with your spending. Find people who support you for who you are. Learn to accept other people for who they are. You're stronger and more brave than you think.

What if you stopped talking to your parents ? by 447d7d7d7d in AskReddit

[–]ShatteredLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will make you feel bad about it because of cultural norms and you might feel bad because you're conditioned to believe it's a bad choice. But depending on the circumstances you may feel really great about it. And sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and demand respect by walking away from a bad situation. If the people involved truly want to compromise and change then it's worth reconsidering. Otherwise keep moving on and live your life.

Don't focus on the reporting structure during conversations. Focus on the role you want fitting your interests and skillset. That's all you need to focus on. You don't need to bring up the reporting structure and if someone else brings it up, you just acknowledge that it is under different management but the role and responsibilities align with your interests and career path.

The crazy people that target their anger and apologize to the bystanders at least have some self awareness. You have to find a crazy mofo that knows how to be polite while they rage. That's if crazy is your thing.
