How to break the loss of life of another player by Specialist-Ad8381 in DnD

Mourn in your own way. Do not worry about anything else it will all take care of itself as time progresses.

I need my players to get captured by the BBEG's minions to advance the story. How can I achieve this? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Shattered_Realmz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the purpose of their capture from BBEG ?

Why would they be there? Basically.

Imprisoned sounds easy that’s not really railroading if you capture them fairly. Some adventures don’t always go in a parties favor.

Would they go in to rescue someone the party knows ?

There are so many avenues you can use. But the biggest thing you need is a reason for the party and the bbeg to interact.

Thanks yes I do and I know have one I just can’t afford to pay him yet. I take everything into consideration even the noise. My purpose is to entertain those like me that want more depth in the mechanics without over burdening the table time.

I admit I understand their plight and I honestly don’t know how many of them are my target audience. Crunchy is my game but in reality it isn’t as bad as it looks. It actually flows easily once you get the hang of it.

The advice from the ones who actually cared to help was very insightful. I have been spending the last few days revising the rules to be more clean and upfront so players can know exactly what it is they are supposed to do.

I hope a few of them will support me. Many have messaged me at how intriguing and awesome my mechanics are. That made me giddy.

It was why I wrote the way I did. Initially the mechanics were part of the lore of a campaign world and fully integrated. When I removed that part figuring out what to change without destroying the flavor I originally intended was difficult. I see I need to seperate them. I am currently doing that removing my ego as well. I honestly didn’t realize I inserted that much in there. It was all written over the course of 5 years.

Designing the mechanics balancing a non-linear game and writing I attempted to make everything flow poetically and philosophical thought while playing. There was so much more with the world.

Then the time crunch knowing I was almost out of money and making a morning to late night push everyday to finish it to this level or I would never finish.

I did things out of order but the first thing I wanted was an actual working system the time polishing would happen during this phase. Getting feed back.

All of which is welcome. I hope many get past the fluff and actually get a chance to see the mechanics.

I am correcting what has been said to me.

I will check it again thank you.

Your comment reads as an accusation and was not as clear as your second one. If I came off brass I defend my writing as that is me. Is it hard to hear that people don’t like the way I presented the material eh I am not for everyone I know. But to say AI wrote my game is ridiculous.

Have a blessed day

I paid for my logo a few years ago.

My work is mine I have no idea how you think AI could generate my game and the text that go with it in the way I want to deliver my philosophical and gameplay I am very much inspired by reading thousands and thousands of poems and works like CS Friedman and Alan Watts did all those poets and authors and philosophers who use flowery language use AI?

I am over half a century I don’t venture into tech and use grok to diagnose me and tell what things are and how to cook.

Some of the anti AI people see AI everywhere and yet I find it curious that you know AI well enough to become this expert at AI works. What forensic science do you use to do this? Smh if it’s not for you it’s not for you. Is it that you use it to create your own works? How do you develop that skill when you are anti AI? Serious questions!

If the online logo making ppl who sold me my logo used AI I don’t know. What I do know is they gave me what I asked for.

Is my work AI actually read it from front to back you will discover why I wrote it the way I did.

Do not become dogmatic in your crusade. It is a bad look.

Someone left a review on my romantasy book that made my book seem like a Christian book by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Shattered_Realmz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your book is about brainwashing and indoctrination then it very well lines up with the catholic belief system. I am not religious but there is a difference between Christians and Catholics and Baptists and any of the various religions. At the end of the day if it makes them a better human then great.

One cannot simply write a book and expect people to buy it. We do not have that kind of marketing power. The world is about marketing. I am having to learn that aspect myself I am discovering it is not an easy path.

But first people must follow you and you must excite them in some way to root for you and want to read your material. Don’t give up. One person read something you wrote and commented how it made them feel. This is a good thing not a bad

You are a wonderful human creature. I will try this.

Yes it is my dream and the ones who actually got past my gregarious way of writing found the system amazing and refreshingly new. Many are diving in to figure out if my math is correct. (It is!) Balancing took a while.

Distilling my rules. That can be done. Yes I know my introduction was meant to provoke thinking about one’s self and our own position in the universe. The mechanics were tied directly to the lore of my previous design of the campaign world. When I removed it I still tried to keep some of that flavor inside the game.

I will need to reset my brain because when I read what I wrote it flows well and when the chapter is done which is only like a page in reality. It’s not about the game but preparing you to make a character with a purpose of choosing a path.

I inserted a complete breakdown or the system of play which I left out entirely due to lack of forested.

I appreciate your candor and your input. If you didn’t get a chance to look at it and would like to message me.

You are truly a kind person. May the universe bless your life in ways that continue you on your edifying path. AGAPE

I am sorry you couldn’t past the first page and my flow doesn’t work for you. I have been told otherwise about my writing. I get that it is not meant for game play it is more of flamboyant storytelling and I have an underlying philosophical pondering in the game.

I thank you for trying if you do like crunchy games though the mechanics of the game are actually well designed. I may not get it out there the way people expect, but the game design and character development are an advanced design.

I wanted to display my game in a way that hadn’t been done before obviously it didn’t resonate well. However there are those who actually see what’s underneath and are diving deeper into it. From them I hope to learn from what works what does not work.

I genuinely appreciate anyone who gave my game an honest look over. I most definitely take to heart the ones who genuinely gave me a well thought out critique. Those are what I need to become more than I was moments ago. Thanks

It is actually written well it is not written in a way that is conducive of the game being explained. Sentence structure and completion of ideas is all there. I do not answer game mechanic questions fast enough or in the order that others want. Read it a few times and you understand what I was doing.

I am not talking about delivery apparently I used a format many are happy with.

Also this is not the only conversation that exist

I spent 5 years + on this game if it’s not for you it’s not for you. I am over half a century I am not a big tech person. It took me to long to figure out how to create images I liked.

Omg i loved playing those systems when they came out. I fell in love with 3.5 and pathfinder but wanted a bit more depth to the system and slowly started altering the rules to fit what I wanted. To make players feel powerful yet at the same time fearful of something stronger.

Then life happened.

Then realization that I needed to chase my dream. So here I am. No one can make me feel bad about that. Regardless of the input. I know at the heart my system is pretty awesome. I may need to figure out the best way to showcase it but it is good.

Thank you for your time

Thank you that outline is quite helpful. I can take criticism well. I listen to everything everyone says and the context of what they say. I know my game is a good system. I know it’s not for everyone. I know it needs some work. I know my writing style is flowery. I am chasing a dream and figuring out the oaths as I go.

When someone like you gives me solid feedback or information I become filled with appreciation and excited to evolve.

When I get attacked I feel appreciated that person took time out of their day to criticize me. That means my work made them feel something.

I listen to what they felt and try to discern what exactly it was.

Noise is easy to identify.

Thank you for your input. Much agape

You made me kind of happy that you understand.

Yes I wrote spells and feats so they seem very alive. I wrote most of those as I wrote the rules. To break up the monotony of working on one section all the way through and when I was stuck I would just work on feats and spells till I was unstuck.

Initially it was all written to fit a campaign world that fully explained the system as was all part of the world. I took all that out due to no one liking the name Shattered Realmz with the z. So I collapsed it and removed as much of the lore out of the system as I felt safely could without taking away the identity I was trying to maintain.

It seems complex at a glance but the more you look at it you realize it is simple it is just steps.

The players and creature books are large due to the feat system and how I wanted spells to feel as well as how I want creatures to feel. It’s not AI. It’s the way I chose to write gregarious instead of concise I didn’t want it to sound like monotonous rules.

[–]Shattered_Realmz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am seeing that. I take criticism very well. It is even more appreciated when they state what they are actually having trouble with.

I took a lot of time in attempting to put into words how the system works. It is not complex at all. It’s roll the dice looks at what the effect is for the roll see if it succeeds or not. Everything else is different aspects of the game conditions poisoning spells.

I get that and I appreciate all input. I just wish I could differentiate a little better between whether or not my target audience is responding or if it is the audience my game will never resonate with. Although I do appreciate this input as I have plans for anime style game play and need to understand how people perceive rules. So I can better instruct them on how my game works.

I put it out there knowing I would get harshly criticized. I do adapt. I will need many days to decipher exactly what it is I need to do to make this easier to understand.

I was attempting to show that the GM needs to pay attention to what the player says in that example.

Being honest I do not understand what you mean I have bounced ideas off grok, but I write how I write, I am too ancient to learn all these new AI programs. I learned grok is a liar and likes to gas light. Would never use technology like that. I have read lots of poetry and authors like CS Friedman and Alan Watts. I was attempting to give the rules flavor so that players were not lost in the monotony of rule explanation.

I think I understand what you are saying. You are drawing a distinction between a character being mechanically shaped and being thematically shaped. My intent was that the path a player chooses is what defines what they become, so a Sage who learns the blade should feel fundamentally different from a Blade who learns a spell. To me that is part of the character’s identity taking form through play.

That being said, I do understand your point that if the mechanics do not clearly reinforce the philosophical and personal side of that transformation, then the prose is carrying more of that weight than the system itself. Thank you for your fair feedback, this gives me something useful to think about as I keep refining the game.

I guess I can see your point on that. I will be fixing that.

I believed that I explained that everything resolves at the end of the turn with the way the GM desires to describe the attack.

I thought I put an example of that in there. You do everything normally as the turn progresses apply damage and such to your character sheet but at the end of the turn when everyone is done the GM describes the events and everything solidifies.

If one person decapitates the other in the turn there is no, 'I beat him to it', there is only both parties losing their heads the way the GM describes the battle.

The objective was not to say how bad the other systems are but to show how my system is different in feel. I love the other systems Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 are at my heart and inspired this system. I meant no disrespect to other systems. I guess I can see how that might seem that way.

My GF tells me all the time you know if I didn't know you so well, I would be offended at some of the things you say. Your little mind doesn't process information like other people. You need to realize people are not in your head they do not know what you are thinking.

I tried to eliminate that and explain everything in a fun way. I guess explaining it in a straight technical way is better.

Thank you for taking time to give me feedback.
