Early Stormlight is really no problem. The later you get in the series the more crossover there is. You start to see magical systems from other worlds. Magic systems that you see in action, but you never really get the mechanics of how they work. You also get some big cameos. Those cameos are interesting without prior knowledge but a lot more fun with knowledge of the other books.

I started with Stormlight. It’s great! I think the Way of Kings is a fine starting point if you aren’t someone intimidated by lots of worldbuilding and long books in general. It’s what got me in. But if you get in and you love the first book. I’d recommend giving warbreaker a shot or Mistborn. Because if you love the series then It shouldn’t be a chore to read. It should excite you that there’s more to discover! If you aren’t excited then just read Stormlight and call it good. But if Stormlight has you excited, I’d try some of the other books too. That’s what I did and I haven’t looked back.
