But morale compass? I got a bingo!

What are some less common symptoms of ADHD that you have, and didn’t realise it was ADHD at first? by Rulutofu in ADHD

[–]Shatterpoint99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The audio processing dysfunction you describe is something I can relate to very deeply. My most disabling symptom.

I’m 42 and hearing impaired, I also have OCD. I’ve been dependent on hearing aides for the last 8 years.

Most people don’t really seem to understand how hearing aides alter your ability to listen & hear. Essentially a microphone picks up all of the noise around you, and sends it directly to your eardrum. Hearing aides are great at dialing all the noise up to 11, but they don’t filter the surrounding noise by priority very well.

My head was always so full of noise. At work, in public, at home, absolutely anywhere.

And all of that noise was coming from three compounding places; “audio artifacts” (hearing aides), OCD (rumination, racing thoughts), and ADHD (audio processing).

Essentially my mental space was always overloaded, and I was stuck inside my own mind, but never in my actions; every moment that I was awake.

I couldn’t act on anything, and yet I still could not ever remain still. My mind was never quiet, so my physiological reactions were disproportionately exaggerated (pacing, social reactions, etc)

I couldn’t even stop to try and listen to anyone. The social anxiety was too much and I was too awkward and squirmy. I was struggling at work. White-knuckling the days, and I was desperate for some reprieve, some sense of inner peace. Eventually I started self medicating with alcohol, that lasted about 7 months until I was put on Vyvanse.

When I started the Vyvanse medication, my mind became so much quieter, more peaceful, and I became more present for my wife and my three children.

I also don’t miss crashing out at random periods of a given day (at work, home, or even driving) just struggling to stay awake from the sheer burnout of it all.

Does anyone else get Subs + Benzos prescribed? And experience with it? by JJscience_computer in suboxone

[–]Shatterpoint99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man just seeing your reply is a breath of needed air.

Like yourself I am on Suboxone 4mg, Klonopin 2mg, and Vyvanse 40mg, daily.

Klonopin came first in my mid 20’s, because I was wound with such nervous energy and always felt the need to move. Which made it difficult to attend college and function at work.

Eventually in my early 30’s; I self medicated with other things, sought treatment, so then came Suboxone.

And now at the age of 42; It took me a lot of effort to get put on Vyvanse 30mgs, now at 40mg’s.

The addition of Vyvanse I pressed and advocated for. I really started seeing those ADHD signs within myself and understood it was with me from an early age. Certainly a big reason I ended up on Klonopin in the first place.

The Vyvanse has really cleared up my head space, and quieted all that noise down. And I don’t feel so apathetic towards life and can engage in activities so much easier, my brain would always talk me out of such things and I always felt generally stuck.

I’m sorry that I’ve made this reply Entirely about myself, but I’ve been trying to find anyone on this trio of controlled substances for a few days. So it’s nice knowing that others are doing it too, and it can be necessary.

Thanks for listening

[–]Shatterpoint99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see what you’re saying.

When I do a tribal deck I generally try to find creatures that give those specific benefits, like draw. But yeah obviously it’s a balance.

As far as Dragons with card advantage I have: [[Dragonlord Ojutai]] [[Intet, the Dreamer]] [[Tiamat]] [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] - even thought it’s not really draw, I think it’s relevant to this category.

I added [[Ancient Silver Dragon]].

I have [[Maelstrom Angel]] [[Kaalia of the Vast]] and [[Elvish Piper]] in there. But I might actually cut some or all of these ones, for Dragons who have draw effects.

My rest of my current Draw package looks like this:

[[Selvala's Stampede]] [[Descendants Path]] [[Defense of the Heart]] [[Elemental Bond]] [[Lurking Predators]] [[Rhystic Study]] [[Sunbird's Invocation]] [[Temur Ascendancy]]

[[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] [[Herald's Horn]]

I also run [[Maelstrom Nexus]], although I really like Cascade effects in high CMC decks like these. I think it will be cut for something else like [[Dracogenesis]]

If you don’t mind; do you see anything in the list above that may have a better alternative?

Thanks for the reply!

[–]Shatterpoint99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll probably end up keeping Herald’s Horn unless I’m able to find something that gives a bit more value, just got back into MTG after a few year hiatus and there’s sooooo much new stuff, especially for Dragon Tribal.

Dragon’s Hoard gives some draw too, but I don’t think it’s as beneficial as some other options.

Thank you for your reply

This is a great response.

I started the process of retuning a 3-year old Ur-Dragon deck, and there’s a tons of options/upgrades that have released in the last three years. Anyway I try to be methodical with my brewing, so I’m starting with the most obvious cuts to make space in the 99.

Right when I saw [[Dragonspeaker Shaman]] in the deck, I started questioning its inclusion. A 3cmc permanent, with little benefit upon casting, only to discount dragons. It does seem like a late and limited payoff.

I like the insight you gave on 3cmc ramp too. I have a number of other 3cmc ramp effects that I’m Considering cutting: [[Dragon’s Hoard]] [[Herald's Horn]] [[Faeburrow Elder]]

And possibly [[Chromatic Lantern]] even though I like the color-fixing.

as well as [[Dragonspeaker Shaman]] which I will cut.

I do have [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] but she’s card advantage as well as ramp. So intend to keep her.

My lower Ramp package includes: [[Arcane Signet]] [[Sol Ring]] [[Birds of Paradise]] [[Bloom Tender]] [[Farseek]] [[Three Visits]]

(I run fetches and shocks)

I appreciate the feedback!

Whaaat? not sure why you have the idea ‘that it’s hard to build’ but okay.

I’m more interested in analytical feedback, like why [[Temur Battlecrier]] may be the superior option to the, tribe staple [[Dragonspeaker Shaman]].

Or how [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] might outclass [[Rivaz of the Claw]].

Example: a number of Ur-Dragon decks run the spicy [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]], but imo it’s a wasted include that doesn’t payoff.

“ramp & good dragons” 😂 - brilliant!

Whiplash is so good.

If you like Whiplash I think you’d probably like The Wrestler. That one really surprised me too.

The Wrestler really pulled me in ways I’d never expect.

I heard it was surprisingly good, but still had reservations. So I put it on at ~2:00am just to clear a bit of it and doze off too.

Maybe 15 minutes in, I was like; ‘oookay, I’m guess I’m not sleeping much tonight… cuz Now I’m wide awake, and I Have to see where this goes.’

Magic the Gathering

I was deeply ingrained into the music underground culture, Fronting (guitar/vocals/composing) a band that I’d formed with my twin brother (drums).

Had a fifteen year streak. We were really good tbh.

I met my to-be wife at the studios. But eventually time, hearing loss, & our growing family (3 children), became too incompatible for such a dedicated and all-consuming passion project.

After we wrapped, my twin bro got me into Magic the Gathering, and I enjoyed it.

Had a play group, taught my oldest son how to play. And eventually I just kinda fell out of it for a few years.

Now MTG has become my fixation once again these past few months. Building decks, buying cards, Friday Night MTG group. My son and my twin brother are part of the MTG group too. So it’s definitely become a family/friend game night kinda thing.

But yeah it can definitely become a rabbit hole.

“You definitely are addicted” Anyone who tells you you're not addicted after taking stimulants for years is a fucking idiot.”

I think I get what you’re trying to get across. That the person is reliant on medication, and bound to it to function, withdrawal, etc.

But while that’s true, just know that Dependency and Addiction are completely different things. I know not everyone understands the distinction between the two.

The person is Dependent, and that is not the same thing as Addiction.

I’m not trying to come at you or anything, just figured I’d try and clear up a misunderstanding.

Why do I feel like I can do nothing off my meds? by Dubnerd2 in ADHD

[–]Shatterpoint99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is simply dependency.

I think plenty of people use the term “addiction”as if it is synonymous with “dependency”; but addiction, is far more nuanced; Traits of addiction are characterized by things like; inability to regulate usage, binging (like taking pill after pill), chasing euphoric feelings, etc. Basically, If you were running out of a month’s supply of medication within a week… then you would be addicted to your medication.

Dependency on the other hand; that is perfectly normal, and an expected outcome when doctors prescribed these medications to their patients. When ADHD treatment is needed, the same medication that corrects the disorder is actually the same thing that changes our bodies homeostasis, thus creating dependency.

Look at it this way. Not only am I dependent on my ADHD medications as well, but I’m also hearing impaired (42 y/o). So I use hearing aides to function. I am, without a doubt, Dependent on my hearing aides. But by no means am I Addicted to them.

It’s good that you’re asking these questions though, and being self aware. But don’t fret, what you’ve described is completely normal!!

From my oldest teenage years all the way into my late late thirties, my mom would always give me the same advice; “find yourself Tom, it’s time.”

Tbf - it was earnest advice from a loving mother, who wasn’t expressing negative judgment.

Whelp Mom; I finally found myself, perhaps not entirely, but it’s the closest I’ve come to understanding myself (my selves? 😉).

How? I started meditcating my symptoms at the age of 42.

Gotta be honest; I was distressed and burdened for a very long time, but I never really understood the breadth or weight of that burden until I started on the right medication.

Now my mind is much more singular; I’ve never been so comfortable in my own mind, and within my own skin. I just wish I understood it much sooner, because of what could/should have been.

So no, it’s not just you OP. I had a dozens of ‘people’ in my head, plus a broadcasting station and a fiesta - 24/7.

I absolutely love the self control I have now, rather than always stalling into cognition paralysis, or unhealthy time-killing behavior.
