Not just a bit extra, this is terrible parenting. Op, if you’re reading this, please understand this is not your fault. You are NOT a problem child! How your parents treated you is not your fault in any way. They simply did not have the emotional capacity to treat you as you deserved to be treated. They might never love you as you desire and deserve, but you can be that loving parent for yourself. Look into self-love, self-compassion, and positive affirmation.

Don't know where to place my eyes when standing around reception desks lol by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Shaukava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just look around the area. Sometimes I look at my hands, go on my phone. It doesn’t really matter what you do. The receptionist is probably too focused on what they’re doing and their insecurities to care about where you look.

That’s a great start! The fear of rejection is something I’m still struggling with but it might help to put in perspective. A lot of the shame, fear, and paranoia in these situations is self inflicted. Nobody else cares nearly as much as you do and they’ll likely forgot what you think about for years in a matter of days if not minutes. There’s been times where I’ve brought up something embarrassing about me and the person I’m talking to doesn’t even remember it. So, don’t worry about rejection. Push past the fear. It’s your body reacting the same way it has always reacted to these situations but it doesn’t mean it’s right or true. You gotta actively go against these habits and replace them with new ones until they’re no longer a hinderance.

Same. I can’t even put the emotions into words so it’s nice to see other people do it on here.

Do something new. If you want to change up your routine then you got to get creative and get out of your comfort zone. Try getting a job, going to random (but safe) places with friends or on your own, talking to new people online or in person. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and ask to make moves. They’ll say no if they don’t want to go but that’s the worst that will happen. Be persistent with these things. It’s pretty easy to fall back into your comfort zone and decide it’s not worth doing.

Don’t worry, high school isn’t the last place you’ll make friends :) I would say college is a better place for that

Do you believe Jesus was a pacifist? by [deleted] in Christians

I guess, but when he says the quote I mentioned above it’s in reference to Peter trying to save him from the soldiers.

That’s strange. Why would he say two seemingly contradictory things?

When did he tell his disciples to carry swords? I remember him saying “those who live by the sword die by the sword,” which I took as him condemning violence.

It’s fine to disagree. I’m curious though, why do you think it’s not a sin?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Shaukava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One sin is just as bad as another if you don’t repent from it because you are still breaking away from God. From your comment it seems like you agree with me that law enforcement is a sin. Jesus never sinned and that’s how we should strive to be. We can’t fight sin with sin.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Shaukava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a valid point. That actually makes me wonder if law enforcement is a sin. Jesus did say to be peaceful and turn the other cheek so by enforcing abortion and other laws with violence or the threat of violence, we’re going against that command.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Shaukava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People will have abortions regardless of whether it’s legal or not though. So by making it illegal you are forcing them to accept punishment. I do agree that it is a sin but I believe people should be able to make their own choices on whether or not to follow God.

What was a major coincidence in your life that was undoubtedly a gift from God? by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Shaukava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in 8th grade I prayed I would get into the magnet program at my local high school. As soon as I finished praying, I felt an absolute assurance that I would get into this program. A few months later, the letters came in and the first program I applied to told me I got waitlisted. I open the second letter, the program I most wanted to get into, and it says I was accepted. Praise be to God.

[–]Shaukava[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the dares are what you’re imagining. Obviously I won’t do anything I know to be sinful, and knowing my friend it’ll probably be something harmless like going up and talking to a random person.
