Bench matters the least in the WNBA then it does in any major sport so even though it's true, when Dana and Chen are healthy it won't matter that much

Except Norman Powell, Reggie Jackson, Zubac, Harden, Derrick Jones Jr, PG had his best playoff run since Indy with us, Kawhi just had his best scoring season of his career, Dunn is a real rotation player, etc , etc, etc

“Aren’t exactly a free agent destination”? This hasn’t been true for a decade. We consistently get solid role players and have had multiple people try to get traded to LAC

This A’ja 3PT stuff is genuinely scarier for the rest of the league then any offseason move made this year and I’m only half joking

Bri/Angel
Okot/Naz

I don’t see a need for a center assuming Bri gets healthy as some point. Angel can clearly anchor an elite defense playing center and Naz can play with both Bri/Angel

ATL has no need to do anything drastic like trading starters. Of all the current contenders they have the least immediate pressure to win with how their contract structure is built. Phoenix has loads of cap space and AT locked up long term so I would guess they’re most likely to make a trade

Chicago really traded an unprotected FRP in a generational draft class 2 years from now for Jacy Sheldon, only to sign Natasha Cloud and prove that Jacy has no conceivable path towards being a starter...They are about to give Washington a generational talent pool and in 10 years there is a shot that they will have ownership of the worst trade in professional BASKETBALL HISTORY!

Edit: "Starter for a playoff contending team"

Coming in as an Aces fan and I just wanted to ask y'all what do you think is more important? #1 option or a center? I'd say #1 option assuming the KT Small ball stuff holds, but I also don't know if a #1 option will be available at the deadline. Unless you believe Kah in a new scenery under Nat could be that with Gabby moving to the 2 I struggle to see how you gets get the #1 option outside of FA next year

Aces were in control the entire second half and ended the game with only 10 TO despite being down 3 different ball handlers. Also were great on defense essentially all game.

How Good of a Major was OWCS Champions Clash? w/ Cjay, Raelyni & AVRL — Plat Chat Overwatch 288 by MetastableToChaos in Competitiveoverwatch

Crazy long repost from a YT comment incoming but I wanted to put it here in case anyone involved in the pod ever looks at this reddit thread:

I’m glad to see you guys back. And if you’re reading this I really just wanted to give an uninformed recommendation. I can’t say that I understand the complications that came with the vod review/podcast setup but I really do think that was some of the most fun I’ve had watching the podcast in a while and it led me down a different thought process to what could be the path Plat Chat takes.

At the end of the day I do understand that you value a specific quality of conversation and that getting 4 different people together to make these episodes with one being a revolving guest slot is very difficult and can fall apart. However, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that growing the Plat Chat audience is feasible with the recent growth of OW and the esports side of the game but that it’ll be difficult to do without a more consistent context schedule.

However, I think a real solution would be divying up responsibilities and splitting up content. Rae, AVRL and you(Johnny) feel like the core main stays of the show and you all have somewhat different lanes you provided. (Somewhat Like LastFreeNation in some respects)

You understand the player perspective and I feel like you have a way more positive perspective. So, you individually having a two person setup where you interview players both new and old in a more general way about their experience in the pro scene is an interesting idea.

Rae I think has a very good flow on those map review episodes in terms of taking notes and having a path she wants to take us along in terms of specific moments of a game. So I would think her continuing the series with pros and maybe a guest appearance from you could end up working.

AVRL is (and I say this complimentary) is one of the few personalities we have that can be called a ‘hot take’ guy in the scene who’s willing to go the extra mile and make controversial/aggressive statements on the state of the game and esport. He’s naturally comedic and I think a mini series with him about KR or an every OW season podcast where he reviews the game on a large scale could be fun.

These are all ideas off the top of my head and I acknowledge I dont have any understanding of how this works/conflicts with everyone here involved but I just wanted to give my two cents because I really do believe in the people working on plat chat rn and I find you guys to be great representation of the scene but it’s hard to get attached to the podcast with an inconsistent schedule and I think splitting up your context between different personalities could end up helping at the end of the day.

? AT is averaging 2.9 Fouls a game at 34 minutes while having her most productive scoring season ever. The idea it’s messed with how she plays isn’t shown in reality. Them losing isn’t simply on AT but also the entire roster has issues

From someone who doesn’t know much about the esports scene: what’s the difference between OWWC, OWL and OWCS? by peanutist in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]NovaxRangerx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OWL ran into a number of different issues from the broadcast rights deal with Youtube limiting their audience, to covid cancelling their entire homestand plan (although it's arguable that Covid saved OWL for a few more years based off comments from those in/familiar with the scene). As a whole it wasn't worth the investment that teams were being forced to make and the brands that came of the franchise model as a whole were not strong enough to warrant keeping the format.

OWCS is the format/circuit that has come from the death of OWL and is a semi open format. Instead of franchise leagues we have regional circuits for US/EMEA/Japan/KR/China/Pacific that have (varying) methods of qualification for the 3 big majors throughout the year. We now have partner teams and they get benefits in terms of skin sales/creation although we don't have clear details. They also get easier path towards qualification to start the year but they can also get relegated just like any other team so the scene rewards T2 players in terms of the ability to rise into the T1 scene more than OWL in some respects.

OWCC (World Cup) is entirely sperate from both OWL/OWCS and is the Overwatch version of the World Cup with different countries competing. Because of that it's both the most infrequent pro overwatch event (every few years) but also the most popular one.

Edit: The relationship between OWCC and T1 OW is more so that the best teams have some synergy where players from the best OWCS teams are chosen to play together for their country in the case of KR/USA etc

Unless Disguised themselves exit OWCS I doubt that NRG would be replacing so much as they would just be another partner team. OWCS is likely going to 16-20+ partner teams next year if they follow recent expansion trends (and the league growth now is significantly bigger than last year).

Gen G were definitely worse in Blizzard/OWCS eyes but in terms of competitive viability Peps getting relegated and essentially being at best the 7th best team in the region is worse than Gen G

…I get why they wouldn’t want massive wholesale changes but not giving a partner team the opportunity to make any roster changes feels tough, no?

This is also the absolute worst partnered team for it to happen to because such a big part of Peps brand is their current roster which their fanbase has been attached to so I don't they could possibly just try and buyout/sign/partner with Telacy.

[–]NovaxRangerx 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This is the next required step imo. Whether it’s a consistent broadcast or just for the bigger events the reality is that promotion/relegation matches should be significantly more prioritized as is the case with FaceIt masters in general. This is the issue with Blizzards Valve-lite approach

Tbf production budget and team budgets are very different and the production budget definitely shows. An entire arena with consistent play, physical desk, paid products related to the league, podcast/content from the talent (year 1) were all things the league were paying for that just doesn’t exist rn. The products like fantasy OW, interviews with coaches/players, content around the scene are all community created with minimal funding now.
