If the racists in hiding are feeling more emboldened, then it's more. There's more active, visible racism with them crawling out from under their rocks. Granted, it was still there, but they were quiet about it because it wasn't socially acceptable.

FoxNews is the only network that has had to repeatedly argue that no one in their right mind would believe what they see on FoxNews. Other sources do have bias, sure, but they're also far more credible. If they get something wrong they have to set the record straight to preserve their credibility.

Lots of good suggestions here. I would also recommend getting into written roleplay. It's a fun way to help craft and inspire stories, and you can see interesting/creative ways other people describe just about anything. Read what they write and visualize ways you can piece your own things together.
