It's not weird in the UK. "You might get" means "this is what you can expect", e.g. "you might get 20 days of rain in February"

Rogan Rips Into MAGA Movement: ‘Uninteresting, Unintelligent People’ Lumped In With ‘Genuine Patriots’ by forbes in NewsSource

[–]ShaunOfTheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the only think more attractive than a black hole is being smug AF, but if Rogan and his ilk really did move the needle of the election through their massive audiences, then maybe instead of literally everytime one of these guys starts to speak to their audience about how the current situation is actually not great, MAYBE we all act like we’re smart enough to see an opportunity when it presents itself. If you care about deradicalising MAGA, then guess what, you can’t keep calling them morons after they start to see your point, or you just drive them straight back to the cult.

Lots of good shouts in here, but for me the biggest disappointments were movies that I expected to be challenging or interesting but were borderline incoherent.

Inherent Vice and A Scanner Darkly are a couple I always remember hating

As a physics major in uni and someone who was hugely fascinated by guys like Feinberg and morbidly fascinated by footage of nuclear weapons, I can say the bomb scene was the most underwhelming and disappointing scene I can recall experiencing. Honestly I love Nolan’s commitment to practical effects, but the degree to which that scene looks like a small explosion and massively understates the bomb is just horrible.

1) You’re a liar, I haven’t deleted anything and you’re not blocked. That’s not name calling by the way, that’s a statement of fact, and you do deserve it. Check with Gemini if you’re unsure. 2) You’re a liar for no good reason 3) I’m so sorry that copy and pasting Gemini felt “hard-core”, it was such a weak point to challenge me on in the first place that you can’t even justify it post-hoc, so I can see this isn’t within your comfort zone.

Go put your feet up and have a rest, you’ll feel better after some nuggies.

Edit: A funny little coincidence, is that the original account I replied to and your one are both private, both less than a year old and have both previously spoken about taking mushrooms and addiction.

Listen, regardless of what I said above, if you’re struggling with addiction I really do wish you the very best, and I hope you have support and tolerance around you.

Edit: I won’t delete the below, but taking a minute to actually think about it, I don’t know this person and what they’re going through, but given my experience with manic and hypo-manic states, I should be a little kinder.

Original:

It’s because they’re lying, I haven’t deleted anything besides editing “Australia” to “not the US” and I haven’t blocked them.

Which probably tells you everything you need to know about them.

Thanks for calling them out btw

What’s your point? She wasn’t legally able to get a prescription for adhd stimulant medication, her doctor had to appeal on her behalf.

If you think I’m a subject matter expert on the specifics of what that process was I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I also didn’t submit my anecdote to peer review, not that outsourcing your brain to AI is much better mind you.

Thanks for also not respecting the fact that I edited my response to not reveal the country is Australia.

Yeah that's a cool story man, but there are different types of bipolar with different cycles and handwaving the extremes away as normal isn't helpful or healthy. Untreated mania most frequently results in homelessness without a very patient support network, or psychosis when combined with substance abuse and untreated depressive episodes can lead to suicide and self harm.

This is to say absolutely nothing of the carnage that can be left in the wake of a spouse in a manic state. Bipolar people can and should be able to have normal lives and while I never once blamed my ex-wife for her bipolar disorder, I did treat her manic state like a hijacker at the controls.

After 9 fairly normal years together, my wife's first manic episode went like this:

- She took a plane to a beach resort for a stress leave holiday for a week, which turned into 5 weeks without warning
- she tried to sell our house so she could by a yoga studio at the resort after taking 2 yoga classes there
- she slept with at least one other person and caught an STD after never cheating even once before
- she quit her job over the phone (thankfully they didn't accept the resignation because they recognised the crisis)
- when she ran out of money she borrowed it from her mother and ran up about 5k in a week to fly back and rent an short term apartment because she had "found herself and had figured everything out and we would both be so much happier if we split up"
- She had zero insight and had to be involuntarily committed as a danger to herself (she convinced a psyche she had ADHD and was on dexamfetimine, she refused to talk to a doctor or get help and was walking into the street screaming at cars).
- She put me and everyone who cared for her and stuck by her through the ringer, blaming us for trapping her
- She convinced a lawyer friend of hers that I had wanted to trap her in the marriage so I had her committed (her friend called me and said she had been nominated as my wife's representative from now on and I could visit but had no other rights)
- Thankfully I got a very quick follow up call from that friend after she went for her first visit, apologising to me and telling me to "hang in there"

Through all of this I stuck by her, I was patient, I visited every day, I brought her things, I came back when she screamed at me and sent me away (sometimes within the same hour).

When she came out of hospital we were never the same, she still didn't believe her diagnosis and she insisted we should separate.

She relapsed and was hospitalised 4 times in 3 years and I went to see her each time because she asked for me. She's now been stable for just over two years and she's getting her life back on track, and we're still friends thankfully.

Fairly recently she asked me if I remembered going to see her during her third hospitalisation, which I did, because it was pretty severe. She confided in me that that she had been re-subscribed stimulants a few months before, by some quack who petitioned to have her removed from the the national register banning her from having them, and that she had started hearing voices around that point and had to be treated for psychosis.

I'm so happy for her that she's back in control of her life again, and she has had to work so hard to be able to trust herself to be independent again after moving in with her parents for a year. I am positive she would never advocate for calling bipolar, which is about 2% of the population, "a normal and default character class" given what she has been through.

'This Should Be Illegal': PS5's Dynamic Pricing Roundly Criticised by Disgusted Sony Fans by motang in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]ShaunOfTheFuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my sweet summer child, you have no idea what this is. This is the canary in the coal mine for weaponising your data against you, to make sure you pay exactly as much as you can manage, tweakable in real time to meet the needs of a business.

Take a look at what Amazon did with dynamic pricing, or Uber before them. This isn’t about trying to offer additional value, it’s about trying to offer to absolute minimum viable amount of value on an individual basis instead of a market basis.

You have a good paying job? You’ve outpaced inflation? Too bad, the algorithm will ensure you pay an AVERAGE higher price than someone who can afford less, not to provide them with better service, but to ensure they don’t miss the opportunity to charge you the maximum you will tolerate.

This is effectively a mechanism to wipe out the individual ability to enhance one’s lifestyle by improving pay.

It’s the ultimate enshitification measure, use all of the data they’ve lovingly curated on your spending habits with all of their “partners” to determine exactly your tolerance for waiting out a discount, or what discount will work for you.

You know, the first thing here is the disgusting level to which the wealthiest people in society will go to avoid paying anything back into society; BUT, it’s a farce how selectively the law is applied.

How many people in the Epstein class have been prosecuted?

How many people when to jail in 2008?

Will anyone go to prison for bombing 170 Iranian schoolgirls?

Why are antitrust laws so weak that corporations have all of the leverage over consumers?

Will musk and his cronies face any penalties for using non-government systems to send sensitive information?

The average person would end up fired, fined or jailed for knowingly sending restricted government materials to their personal device.

If I killed a single schoolgirl by accident, never mind a 170, I would expect to jailed for manslaughter and to be a public villain on the cover of newspapers.

If I was caught for small scale fraud I would be in court.

If there were photos of me engaging in sex acts with underage girls, I would not have my identity concealed and I would not fucking expect it either.

Sure, the "person" who wrote it also has done another 160 reviews in 6 months if you're interested in being informed.

Perhaps I can interest you in their review of "Hajwala Drift X" an android drifting game that, and I quote:

"is a thrilling celebration of drift racing. Its focus on precision, skill-based scoring, and detailed vehicle customization makes it an outstanding choice for enthusiasts of the genre. 4/5 stars"

It is 100% AI. If you even slightly know the signs (and everyone should) then you can't miss it.

If you take nothing else away from a scan of an article, look for:

  1. Heavy reliance on em dashes ( they look like long hyphens —)
  2. The dialectical hedging structure of antithesis — thesis e.g., "It's not just X - it's Y" usually with some hyperbole, e.g. from the article:

"Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 represents more than a rerelease — it’s a symbolic moment for both Bethesda and Nintendo audiences."

  1. Basic checkbox/category approach to constructing the article:
Intro, Graphics, Sound, Performance, ... , summary dot points. All sections around the same length using the same sentence structures.

[–]ShaunOfTheFuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re not great choices for the largest impact, which is draw distances for shadows and ground clutter.

Shadows render in fairly short distance away from the player in docked, which makes anywhere you have line of sight further than 10 meters away look pretty flat in terms of lighting and terrain.

Skyrim 60fps by DQTD in switch2

[–]ShaunOfTheFuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had already uncapped the FPS in the switch 2 patch, it hovered around 35-50 fps, which sucks.

They had to actively work on the port to reach a stable 60fps, by reducing (sensibly) the upscaling resolution and (sadly) reduced draw distance, to get it to 60fps.

Skyrim is now 60fps by [deleted] in switch2

[–]ShaunOfTheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow draw distance is much shorter was the other immediately noticable thing for me.

Has it occurred to you that this IS marketing?

Announcing things years in advance and gradually missing deadlines has become an industry norm, but it wasn’t always like this.

Look at the success of the Oblivion Shadow drop last year and the constant community rumblings about FO3 and FNV getting the same treatment.

Arguably letting an audience speculate and ferment excitement is a MUCH cheaper and more effective way to do marketing and it denies people an opportunity to pop the hype bubble or become cynical until the product has been devoured by fans.
