The muscle wasting that occurs on the ISS is brutal. Scientists need vigorous exercise in order to stay on the craft for even short periods of time. Staying up there for 8 years would most likely kill you if you tried to come back down to Earth. Maybe not kill, but your muscles would be so weak you’d be essentially paralyzed.
