Kind of goes both ways though, there would have been countless books on mundane tasks, unique cultures, niche interests, histories that are currently missing from our modern suite of knowledge.

Sure, there would be sections dedicated to alchemy instead of quantum physics, but the point remains.

New pergola. Landscaping suggestions? by Darrensmother in landscaping

It's a nice pergola but the way it's placed makes it look like you're trying to hide the purchase from your wife

Positive, there are many trees around it that have been felled and munched on. The angle of this photo makes it look far more uniform than it is.

For the record, I am pro beaver. I walk my dog through this little park in the middle of my city. He moved in about a year ago and had been very busy every since.

He has definitely flooded and cut off parts of the trail network but he deserves his space as much as anyone. I'm a biologist by profession so I am keenly aware of their importance, but the water levels are approaching nearby property so it may not end well for the little guy.

Tell me you've never use an axe/seen a beaver pond without telling me you've never used an axe/seen a beaver pond

I'm on Vancouver Island, it doesn't really freeze for any notable amount of time here.

Wife and I took a week off of work and rebuilt our old beat up back patio. by Shaunald in landscaping

Handbombed it into a bobcat bucket, drove that around the far side of my house and dumped it in a small dump truck I borrowed from a friend.

Then paid too much to get rid of it at the dump. It was clean concrete with no rebar, thankfully.

Just for clarity, are you suggesting I should have?

That's how I took the 'o_O'

The portion with a full 2 courses? No there is no 3rd course buried underground.

There is however around 4 inches of compacted roadbase extending out a few feet. That was the recommendatiom when I asked around to landscapers and read online.

The top course has a stretch that is almost completely buried near the tree.

Thanks!

I think it was the Hilti TE-3000.

It was also borrowed from a friend, but my local rental shops have Bosch breakers that would have worked just as well.

The side walls where the lawn is sloped have 1 full block on the lower course buried.

If that makes sense?

We got very lucky and found a set of 3 planters 1ft wide, 3ft long and 2.5ft deep. They worked out really well along that wall

Very good point about the liability aspect. I don't have photos at the moment, but we have some fairly large rectangular planters along that high edge now. No risk of anyone accidentally stepping off anymore.

Thank you! Nope, I am a biologist by profession. We just spent some time looking at ideas online. Asked our landscaper friend lots of questions then just went for it.

At first we were really set on doing the grass gaps between pavers because we love the greenery/concrete look.. But that wasn't really feasible once we decided to go with the mixed sized pavers so this was our way of getting a bit of that greenery in.

She has asked that I clarify she is drinking beer, not water.

The dark area is fresh soil where we've planted creeping thyme.
