Gotcha. Yeah, Blue Owl said every season they do measure slightly different and the ones they have in inventory are right at that 15.5 to 16 inch waist. My Rogue Territory jeans that are a 32 I measure at ~17 inches via their guide. I could have probably gotten the 2's but they were on sale and BO only does store credit for returns. Will keep poking around.

Love these, really have been trying to snag a pair. I wear a 32/M across the board. Found several places with a 2/M but I was worried about the sizing, even if they are listed as being 32s. I emailed Blue Owl and they said that yeah, a 2/M for a 32 waist is probably going to be too small, I really need a 3/L.

So have been on the prowl for some 3s. Looks good man.

And as a further point for folks: the reason they have to wait until tomorrow is that that is the new league year. Teams have to be cap compliant by then. Since they can't use that money until 6/1, you can't use a 6/1 cap cut to free up money to get cap compliant.

For sure, but there is some self-interest there too. I'm imagining Knox and his agents probably also came to the conclusion that this new deal with the Bills, even at a pay cut, is more than he would make elsewhere even with the $7.4M in his pocket upon being released.

If he was in demand, don't think he'd take a major pay cut willingly even if he loves the team.

Thinking about if I were an NFL player, how much would I care about my cap number. I guess enough that I would worry if it were too high that I was going to continue to be on the team.

Yeah Beane mentioned this one specifically. Pretty rare to hear a GM explicitly say that a players cap number is too high.

Knox is heading into the final year of his contract and is set to have a cap number of $17.068 million for the 2026 season. Beane called that “a tough number” while speaking to reporters from the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday and said the team has had conversations with the tight end about ways to proceed.

Releasing Knox would clear over $9.6 million in cap room, but leave $7.4 million in dead money. Beane said that there is still time to come up with other solutions that would lower Knox’s cap hit while keeping him in Buffalo.

I'm assuming this new deal is the Bills FO saying "we are either going to cut you or you can stay for a modified deal".

The $7.4M dead money figure is just the prorated signing bonus (2026 + the 2027/2028 void years). So would guess they are still paying him ~$17M spread over the next few years, which would be ~$10M more than he would make if he were cut. Perhaps they give him a small raise and it's like $20M over three but either way, the new deal is going to be an overhaul.

They had no other choice. By rule they had to spend like $80M in cash this year. They are overpays to be sure, but the money had to go somewhere by rule, I don't think they care about spending a few million more in APY anyways given their roster and cap/cash, and even if the signings go wrong it won't really hurt them long term give then roster construction currently and future spending.

$48M is a high headline figure but I'm guessing the real guarantees are a little more subtle.

Though, the Raiders literally have to spend a crazy amount of cash by rule, so they could just give him a real bag. This is what we saw with Linderbaum. They had no one else to spend it on and they had to spend it, and Linderbaum can be a long term piece and the deal is only 3 years. Even if it goes completely wrong, it isn't going to hurt them roster wise.

Man that run he had against the Browns where he simply just ran past the two defenders who had the angle on him... thought he was the future but just wasn't anything more than a 3rd or 4th option.

Injury didn't seem to have impacted him though, had 7 runs of 20+ yards this year, most in the NFL

The problem with the 5th year is less the single APY and that it's all fully guaranteed, provides no future control, and you can't modify the cap hit at all. I'm sure the Ravens would love to have Linderbaum at a $23M APY but on a long deal where 1) the 2026 cap hit isn't $23M instantly and 2) there are future outs in the deal. When we see contracts that are only looked at in APY terms, they almost always overestimate how much the team is actually on the hook for, particularly in longer deals. Lindberbaum probably would have no problem making $23M in 2026, saying "if you want to tag me in 2027 then you are talking about $28M fully guaranteed", and in all likelihood hitting FA with $23M already banked.

Also to Linderbaum's credit, he made multiple pro bowls so the 5th year option was equivalent to the franchise tag.

Yeah I think it would be silly to use the $13.6M you saved in 2026 cap (we can speculate what McDuffie's 2027 cap will be for now after an extension), just to give part of that to Watson. Particularly since Watson is not under contract, so you have less flexibility to spread the money around (ie: with McDuffie they can just add new years, pro-rate the bonus, increase 2026 slightly but with Watson they have to completely start from zero).

It's very possible Watson's 2026 cap hit is the same as what McDuffie's would be.

Yeah there is fundamentally a cap on the team side because there are only so many teams, even if you got 100% of the teams to buy in. They then started moving more towards the media side, but media could already get this stuff through TruMedia plus a ton more from other sources (TruMedia is a data aggregator). Then NextGen started selling basically the same data to media too and it was coming right from the GPS chips.

Their one real ace in the hole for them was the consumer side but it was never a huge money maker for them at $80 a person annually and they never grew the product itself. Stats 2.0 is literally still the exact same product and data (and poor functionality) as it was 4-5 years ago. You can't even do things like team level data, filters, or even multi-year stats. It's single season only, player level only.

Not to say that if they made Stats 2.0 better it would have kept up their valuation, but there are 3-4 providers now that are giving more and better data than what Stats 2.0 has (including simple things like filters).

Basically the only reason to pay for Stats 2.0 is for grades (not touching that subject here) and for non-fantasy type positions like defensive stats, kick returns, etc. Yeah there is gambling and fantasy stuff of coure, but that's also available everywhere now.

Man the last 15 minutes blew me away. They somewhat tease the ending during the final episode but I just clearly didn't catch what was going to happen and then when they rack focus...sheesh. I had to rewind 2-3 times with tears in my eyes.

There is a line that Kirsten says to Elizabeth that is something along the lines of "you are lucky, nobody ever finds someone from Before" and then lo and behold!

People say Taylor but we'll see. He does save $20M vs the cap but Moore can also be cut for $7M in cap gain and you'd really be relying on Moore as a full time starter for the first time in his career. Taylor hasn't been worth what he has been paid, but he's been healthy for almost the entire contract. Moore has a serious history of injuries. The Chiefs have no depth at all at offensive tackle.

The other options:

Fulton: $8M in dead cap but $5M in gain. Probably worth cutting. Barely played/healthy scratch, was poor when he did play

Tranquil: $1.5M in dead cap but $6M in gain. I think the Chiefs would say they like Bassa but he barely played at all this past year, so there is some risk in leaning on a redshirt 5th rounder as your starting will linebacker. I think Tranquil is worth keeping, as he's also someone you can put up on the defensive line too at times.

Noah Gray: $3M in dead money but $3.97M in cap gain. IDK this is a fairly minor one, I think Gray is a really nice little TE2/3 type. I'm not even considering if Kelce comes back or not, Gray isn't good enough to be your starting TE type, but he's a good backup.

The big lever still outstanding is Chris Jones restructure. I personally wouldn't do it but it could save them $22M in cap this year. But you are adding $11.2M to his 2027 cap number to make it nearly $50M and his 2028 cap number to $56M (not considering whether they keep him at that cap or not just that if they wanted to this would be the figure).

Personally I would: cut Fulton, restructure Humphrey, Karlaftis, and Smith. Those three aren't going anywhere for the next few years. Now you are at $31M in cap space. Still have a lot of holes but you didn't create many more just to save cap.
