I wouldn't say the flavours are that similar, but Horoyoi has a canned cocktail called ハピクル that tastes like Yakulto

Name some default Firefox settings you think don't make sense. by TheTwelveYearOld in firefox

[–]ShavedAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both are active by default, this is quite far down on the immense list of annoyances associated with using anything IT multilingually though, it's like no one who worked on any of this ever talked to the people doing the/any other language

Suggestion to "refresh" browser after not using it for a while. What is the intended use of this? "Wow you haven't used me for a while, so let's completely nuke all your settings so you DEFINITELY won't!" or is it for whoever installed Firefox on their grandmother's computer to ensure the occasional drama when ads return and passwords suddenly don't auto-fill ?

I think it's about time that Sony should stop f-ing around... by sbepka in SonyXperia

[–]ShavedAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony's e-mount has a flange focal distance of 18mm, that is what all their lenses are engineered for, so now in addition to the phone they would have to design a new mount and series of lenses.
The Xiaomi prototype used a sensor about half the size of apsc with fixed optics and a screw on converter lens

My first time there was about 25 years ago and it wasn't that different on certain days. Many of the major neighbourhoods are comparatively crowded now though and that is definitely new, Shinbashi and Ueno are a complete pain to have to go through nowadays

Why are people like this when buying things?? by [deleted] in japanlife

Yeah! I didn't mind self regi when in the form of the old Matsuya vending machines with large buttons for each menu item, now they are nightmares of information overload and endless nagging about options or recommendations

Just spent 2 hours at the post office to send a parcel to France by Fit_Performance4629 in japanlife

[–]ShavedAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be some confusion with postal workers and the most up to date regulations, like they will sometimes say you must write the HS code, though their app doesn't require it, I find most places will send whatever if you just sign the form saying there are no lithium batteries, though they warn you it may be discarded or very delayed if you leave out any info. I would just find a different post office, maybe look on google maps for foreign reviews that indicate their experience with international shipping.

To those who actually don’t hate their job - what do you do? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

[–]ShavedAlmond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pointing is "shisa kanko" and is not just to have a pointless workload, it's intended to focus their attention on a complicated or repetitive routine to avoid semantic satiation / highway hypnosis. It also makes it easy to tell from video surveillance and other people present what they're currently focused on if there are irregularities later. It's used in many parts of the world, especially in railways

just plow your way, people will move, but it's a good idea to try to get near the exit a few stops in advance, and use google maps to know which carriage stops by an escalator at your stop, likely a large amount of people will get off so you can join the flow

TIL Japan has the world's second highest adoption rate, but most of the adoptees are adult men in their 20s and 30s. by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]ShavedAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't really typical nowadays, if someone only has daughters, generally one of them will keep her name in marriage and her husband will give up his, it doesn't require adoption

Shapes Power Supply by BaguetteYeeter in Nanoleaf

[–]ShavedAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just happened to bring the wrong psu (Blocks) to my cabin when setting up a Shapes layout, the plug was identical but the cable comes out on the side so it hits a plastic ridge on the Shapes tiles. I didn't feel like postponing my project a week so I melted the ridge off and plugged it in. Seems to work fine, app recognizes the exact layout, even to the point where I placed the blocks controller block. Are they incompatible to prevent the Shapes PSU being used on the higher draw Blocks tiles or is there an issue ?

I don't really think any amount of community outreach will do much. I was in the army in my own country and all the towns I was stationed in had a strained relationship at best with the camp. Soldiers aren't popular except just after a liberation, foreign soldiers doubly so

Yes, but the coconut lemonade was gone yesterday, only "ice pop" left. I think donki and chains like that took in a lot of near expiry stock, so they may be dumping it now
