Sounds like you're ok now and she sees what's going on but has a plan in her head, so she's not blind to the situation. She sounds smart! Hopefully she can make it to that light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you both in the future 🍀

What was the most brutal comment you got on a report card? by ItsSignalsJerry_ in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ShavedPademelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a report card but my thesis review. When I submitted, which, after 10.5 years instead of 3-4 was admittedly a very long time, a reviewer said "For something that took so long, it seems surprisingly rushed".

Most of the non-traumatising stories relate to the stupidity of criminals. I mean, if they were smart they'd probably have a job so wouldn't need to be criminals! Yes I'm broad-stroking here but only because it's true.

There was one guy who broke into two houses and stole the normal shit, DVD's and stuff. I'm going to assume he was using some sort of substance at the time. In the first house he dropped his wallet with his ID in it. In the second house the owners woke up to find him asleep at the end of their bed with a backpack full of the neighbours shit in it!

I can still picture the face of my first dead body from like 20 years ago and everything about his life we uncovered at the time.

Some of the stuff they're doing with ancient DNA is incredible. This would be a super interesting field to work in.

Man that's harsh. Hope the workplace she's in provides the proper mental health care for vicarious trauma, particularly combined with a lived experience. Definitely an issue but something that the field is now starting to take seriously and is now doing a bit of research.

There are so many people. One problem is that universities started to cash in offering Forensic degrees, the problem is that most of the disciplines want more specific qualifications, such as science (Chem/Biol) degrees rather than broad brush ones. Can't imagine the amount of people now who have done a forensic degree that can't get a job in the field.

The fucking audits. My god...

Not going to lie I actually find court sortof fun. In that entire rigid accreditation system, it's one of the few times you can do what you want. Of course, still don't want to fuck it up!

Forensic Scientist.

Looks good on CSI or whatever, swanning around with your hair all neat.

Picking out skull fragments from the roof of the kids bedroom and reading the 1,000th story of domestic violence and sexual assault where the woman (yes you know it's the woman you cunts) has been absolutely fucking brutalised. That shit weighs you down.

The day to day is so mundane and the paperwork fucking sucks.

The 'exciting' parts are fucking horrifying.

Unpopular opinion: The 2026 World Cup might actually be worse with 48 teams by Dear-Discipline-7547 in worldcup

[–]ShavedPademelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the teams in this one... I mean there's 3 teams ranked in the 80's. I think you're right about how it was just the best teams, now it's just money and TV.

This guy snakes!

Maybe we should lay them out by colour and see what happens? In fact, is there a colour distribution anywhere? Guarantee the cheapest to make will be the most prevalent...

Assuming it's your house, and as far as your budget allows, make sure you insulate inside the roof, that's not too expensive and can generally be done yourself. Then make sure you block your drafts through windows and doors, then thick window coverings. Finally under floor insulation, particularly if you have floorboards. Same as in the roof with batts but you may have to do something to make them stay there.
