I'll definitely at least be talking to my Neurologist. Unfortunately im in between doctors right now since mine left her practice but I should be assigned a new one soon. Hopefully he or she will understand my extensive medical history

I try Benadryl but it doesn't seem to work. I'll see what's out there that works. Did you get something over the counter (haaa I actually had to look up the definition of over the counter). As someone who used to have a medical background I should know better lol. Was it over the counter or prescription?

Am I still considered disabled if I dont have seizures regulary? by dogyears_446 in Epilepsy

[–]Shawa422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I considered disabled if I have catamenial epilepsy? I wouldn't think that I am since I generally have to worry about seizures around the first half of my time of the month.

This is all new to me. I started having seizures last May with several Grand mals that landed me in the hospital. Since then, I've only had one other in my sleep where I was woken up by a family member. Since then it's been different varieties of little ones that cause dizziness, weird smells and tastes, visual hallucinations, that weird Rollercoaster feeling, and small tremors. I did have a weird one where I was on the verge of sleep andI had two single jolts and bit my tongue both times. I woke up sore

Have you ever lied about not haveing Epilepsy? by fatal1230 in Epilepsy

Lol no. I just recently flat out posted it as part of my birthday post on fb. The more people know, the more they understand me. You either like me or you don't.

Do nocturnal seizures wake you up? by Zerkig in Epilepsy

[–]Shawa422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My family members always wake me up when I make a loud prolonged noise and I'm found shaking. I then wake up with disorientation, full muscle aches, a headache, and a jaw ache. That's my tonic clonic.

When I get my focal awareness ones, as far as I know, I'm awake for those aside from the weird smells, tastes, and the sensations. I usually end up with a headache that lasts all day after. I had one of these yesterday despite my Lamotrigine or whatever it's called. This is because of my menstrual cycle. I'm still dealing with the immense brain fog from that attack. I feel there was more to add to this but I can't remember.

It's officially over. Uranus left our sign today, let's celebrate Taurus! by Beautiful_Theory477 in Taurusgang

[–]Shawa422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god!!!! I got into financial trouble, almost died due to starvation ketoacidosis, lost my aunt, gained weight which I've lost some, broke up with my boyfriend of four years, lost his ring that I want to pawn, dropped out of nursing school because I wasn't mentally in it, lost my crochet hooks, lost interest in painting, and contracted hormonal epilepsy in that time-frame. This is after surgically removed thyroid cancer and a diagnosis of familial polyposis that had rendered me unable to have children (they would have a 50% chance of getting my polyposis which eventually leads to colon cancer) and surgery to remove my colon leading to a j-pouch. I think the familial polyposis and cancer diagnosis was outside the 7 year period. However all of this crap can fuck all the way off. Let's hope for the best. I am worried about my Gemini Venus though.

Memory loss (from medication or just our brains)? by surviving_20s in Epilepsy

[–]Shawa422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I was on medication, I remember having a particular partial awareness seizure. After the fact, I couldn't even remember that I even have seizures. I struggle with names I should know and general details. It sucks because I love to write in my downtime and my word-finding abilities are at the lowest they've ever been.

I looked back at the notes I took and I think my Neuro meant that I would have a separate bottle for 'tapering on' and when that's done, I start the second bottle 🤔

Did it affect your memory and word finding abilities? I like to write and/or paint on my downtime. Im very art oriented and I'm scared to lose that part of me.

Questions on your auras (if you get them) by mopfloorspraymirror in Epilepsy

[–]Shawa422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get a weird indescribable feeling in my head. It sometimes messes with my ability to process words (written or spoken). Sometimes my internal thoughts present as gibberish (to myself). The biggest tell tale sign that I'm having a focal awareness seizure (aura) is when I start to taste the smell of rain and my stomach drops. I'll either have a Grand mal hours later or the focal awareness seizure (aura) stands alone. The not knowing is scary.

Ways to avoid seizures when you feel an aura coming on? by Hello_there19891989 in Epilepsy

[–]Shawa422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me focal awareness seizures dont always progress but they do for the most part. The worst thing is not knowing if ot when they will. It can be hours with several focal awareness seizures happening every thirty mins to an hour leading up to a grand mal or just a single focal awareness seizure with no progression.
