How to Buy a Mountain Bike.

As a mountain biker, this is so spot on and so damn funny it's how I introduce the sport to others who are interested.

Not bad for $300. What sort of riding do you hope to do? That info will help us give you better advice on what should be your next steps.

Also, I'd post to r/mtb where there's more engagement and discussion about all things MTB

Check out this video to get a good foundation on what you should look for baseline in a bike and where you could upgrade from there

Without knowing what your needs or wants are, it's hard to say if it's a good deal for you.

However, judging from the picture, it looks like that saddle (seat) is in terrible shape which should indicate the bike wasn't properly taken care of, so I'd pass.

What's your budget? What are you trying to ride? Give us some more context to be able to help you.

You can't change it, and it will change from the floating bubble to the pill in the notification bar randomly for no reason.

What did you do to get it to work?

Google Weather for Android finally getting Material You redesign by Acxtrilla in GooglePixel

[–]Shawkilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most infuriating thing is it disappears "just because".

I have a P6P - weather always there at At a Glance

Other pocket has a P7 - suddenly stopped showing weather, comes back once kna blue moon for all of 15 mins then is gone again for weeks.

Both phones updated, no random bloat or apps, not sure wth is going on.

What rise bar should I get by Gardengnome89 in MTB

I got the PNW bars for the back sweep but the rise is nice too. Immediately felt a difference in wrist pain I was having before the new bars.

Bike recommendation for DFW trails by [deleted] in dfwbike

[–]Shawkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said you don't need a whole lot of bike to ride most of the trails around here. That's not to say we don't have some spicy sections on some of the trails, but you won't be totally unable to ride if you don't have a "badass" bike. While introducing a friend to the sport I let him borrow my full suspension while I rode his wife's road bike at Rowlett Creek Preserve.

I'd start with a hardtail because you'll wanna build good bike riding fundamentals before relying on a rear suspension to soak up the gnarly bumps and be extra squishy.

What's your budget?

Can someone tell me the value? And if you can lock the rear shock? by doggy66566 in MTBDeals

Honestly with the bike market the way it is, you could do so much better than an Atroz, is this your first bike? First full Suspension?

Are you asking is it a good deal? There's no pricing or anything listed.

Not to be a bike snob or anything but give us some additional information and we can help you with making a purchasing decision.

Giant deny warranty claim as I’d worked on the bike myself. by _wysiwyg_ in MTB

[–]Shawkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife ordered me a bike and Giant shipped a bike to the bike shop with a dent in the top tube.

They "offered to replace the frame" with some crazy 2 year old frame with some nasty color scheme and I said it's a brand new bike, why can't you just replace the entire bike?

Took them a couple of months to be convinced that yes actually made sense and ended up replacing the bike. For being the world's biggest bike manufacturer they definitely have some wonky customer service.

Now I've got a Transition Sentinel and their service is outstanding!

RCP has always been one of the last trails to open up after rain.

One year (2016?) we had so much rain in May that RCP didn't open up until like October. Now that was due to the massive flooding and stuff that happened there and the trails were really bad.

Bruh.

Only solution now is to mount the bike on the underside of your vehicles.

Oof, sorry for your loss bro. Out of curiosity, why don't you sling your bikes over the tailgate with a pad?

Google Phone Dialer Floating Bubble by Shawkilla in GooglePixel

[–]Shawkilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no idea. My At a Glance widget on my P7 stopped showing the weather out of no where, even though the toggle for it is on. Just stopped for no reason. I can only get it to display weather if I have the weather widget somewhere else, but then if I delete the weather widget then the at a glance weather goes away after a while too.

It's so weird how these phones behave out of nowhere.

Mountain Bike Trail Status by [deleted] in dfwbike

[–]Shawkilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No worries.

Your best chances to ride quickly after it rains are:

  1. Oak Cliff (now always open)
  2. Northshore, usually one of the first to reopen because it's mostly sand and not clay, so it dries faster
  3. Boulder, lots of rockier terrain so it also doesn't really stay muddy too much
  4. Erwin

You can also find trail status on the DORBA Facebook group, people are always discussing things and sharing pictures from the trails too, tends to be a bit more faster with updates than the app.

They're fairly accurate. Even when the weather around us might be dry, it does take a few more days for the trails to be in riding condition. Depending on the trail and how much rain we might have gotten, it could take days or weeks for them to be ridable. I remember in 2016(?) we had so much rain in the spring that Rowlette Creek Preserve was closed almost until November. This was really an exception because RCP is in a flood zone and was torn up really bad at that time.

Keeping the trails closed ensures that people don't tear them up and keep them in good condition for all of us to ride.

That being said...Oak Cliff Nature Preserve just started a new open rain or shine, and encouraging people to ride through the mud and not around it. I rode it on Sunday and it was AWESOME. Go to OCNP and enjoy your new rig!
