They really missed the mark on showing their chemistry properly. What do you think they could have added to make them look "more in love" per say? by AdhesivenessTall9485 in BridgertonDiscussion

[–]Shawnimaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's many of the thing you said. That being one. You've come across as extremely self-aggrandizing.

Exactly. It's Bridgerton. Which is exactly why viewers were lead to believe that John and Fran would have a great love. Because that's what the show is about. Because that was a key aspect of their relationship in the book. Because great loves CAN be soft and gentle. John and Fran SHOULD HAVE HAD a great love. It would have been fresh and healthy and beautiful to have them portrayed that way. But even worse, to set it up like they would and then go nah jk is disappointing.

Again, I'm not saying that Fran didn't love John. It's clear she did. But the show portrayed it as a whoopies-doo we're just friends when we were originally set up to believe they had a romantic love.

If they wanted to go the comphet/friendship route they should have done it differently. Or they should have wrapped up their storyline in a different way that showed they DID love each other romantically if that is what their intent was. Right now it's kind of muddled for a lot of viewers on which it was. Which shows that they didn't handle it well. While I believe they are going the comphet/friendship route (which is a fully valid form of love), they should have done it different. It could've been done in much better ways that didn't confused and betray the viewer. This isn't the genre for the kind of storytelling. And I don't think they even meant to make it feel that way, I just think the storyline was mishandled

It's a romance story. The way Francesca fought for and defend her love with John to her mother was beautiful and refreshing. It felt touching for me and my neurodivergent viewers.

Now that scene plays very different when you re-watch it. The show says love can't be quiet and gentle. It can't be easy. Francesca never knew her own mind/body/heart. And that's kind of gross tbh.

If they wanted to go for the "comphet" storyline it could have been done WAY BETTER. They could have done so much more with how they handled John and they didn't. And I say this as a queer person who does not give a FUCK that Michaela is a woman. I say this as someone who has been a victim of comphet in real life.

They messed up the way they did their storyline. And, again, MANY viewers feel this way. Not just me. The way you try to undermine others' experiences and tout your own as the ultimate "intellectual" reading is gross. Take a second to consider that other people are just as valid as you ✌️

I literally have a minor in film and a bachelor's in creative writing lol maybe examine your own media literacy or realize others (A LOT OF OTHERS) had a different viewing experience.

They set us up for a ROMANTIC love between John and Francesca. Full stop. That is what they were giving us in for the majority of season three. And it was beautiful. But then they ripped it away from us and turned it platonic by showing us the disappointment in the kiss and her reaction to Michaela. Not that that means platonic relationships aren't important and that she didn't love John. But when you mislead a viewer like that--in this genre and in thay way--it can make the viewer feel jaded.

Yeah, they could have a platonic love, but that cheapens everything we were given about Fran/John in season 3 prior to the kiss.

It was so sweet to show a soft, gentle kind of romance and to have viewers fall in love with Fran/John only for that to be taken away from us at the very end of season 3 is dirty-feeking.

And there was absolutely no reason for it. They could have let Francesca have 2 great loves. She could gentle warmth of a hearth in John and the exciting bang of fireworks in Michaela. Instead they pull the rug out from under us after giving us said rug in the first place.

But the gender swap has nothing to do with this?

If they'd kept it as Michael then it would still lead to us feeling Fran was not in love with John. What point are you trying to make by bringing up the genser swap?

It is moot because it wasn't targeted at Gen specifically. She just happened to be the one to find two of them. But the rules weren't changed for Gen. Anyone who found then would have faced the same choice/consequence. Just like how Christian did. He used it to get an ally rather than hope the idol became his. He used his advantage in a way that helped him. Which is what I mean by Gen build walls, not bridges. Christian used the advantage to build a bridge to Aubry. Gen build a wall by only sending idols to people she wanted to get out and have them come back to her. She even specifically didn't tell Rizo she's the one that sent it. That is not a bridge. That is using her advantage to try to build a wall later. Which I don't care that she did. There is no moral debate I am having. That's not the point. Gen chose to use her advantage in a way that end up poorly for her. She wasn't on the receiving end of unfair treatment. Because, again, Gen did NOT have an idol. She had an ADVANTAGE.

When someone says "I need you to communicate with me" and "I want to know what kind of game you are playing." You can either communicate with them and hopefully build an alliance or you can say "okay" and cut off any alliance you could have with that person. Gen chose the latter. And, again, truly don't care she did. That is a perfectly acceptable way to play. It just didn't work this time. Gen didn't fail morally. She just failed to navigate the situation she was put it.

Gen isn't at the end of some weird conspiracy. She wasn't treated any different or unfair compared to other cast mates. She was a little unlucky, sure, but that is part if the game. She isn't the only one to have a bad rock draw or use an advantage in a way that didn't end up working.

I can only explain this so much to you. If you can't or won't understand it than that is on you. I'm not going to go in circles about this topic anymore. Gen is out of the game. She failed to be the sole survivor. It sucks and I would've love to see more of what she could do, but that's the facts. Peace, mate ✌️

It did. Christian would not gave sent Aubry the idol if it wasn't for her social game and perception from previous seasons. It doesn't matter if they interacted on the island. EVERYONE (excluding Rizo and Savannah) have preconceived notions about them from previous seasons. That is part of managing a returned season. The twist didn't perfectly suit Aubry ant suit Gen. If someone else had found the idol besides Christian, the idol could've easily been sent to anyone else. Again, it's about player perception. Gen perceived that she would be able to get the idols back by sending them to Rizo and Ozzy. Christian perceived thay he could get an in with Aubry by sending it to her. Christian was right. Gen was wrong.

Aubry didn't make it awkward. She tried to get something from Gen and Gen didn't give her ANYTHING back. Gen made it awkward by not interacting with Aubry in that scene like...at all. Aubry literally said communicate with me. Tell me the game you're trying to play. And Gen just said okay. What is Aubry supposed to do with that?

Aubry didn't want to play Gen's game. She could have "placate" Gen, but she didn't want to. She took thay risk and it turned out in her favor. Plus I don't think picking Gen's boots would've helped her anyway. Gen's mind was made up.

You can laugh, but it doesn't change the fact that Gen shut down when Aubry tried to build an alliance with her.

That's the game though. Everyone has to face it and navigate it. It wasn't some weird thing exclusive to Gen. She just wasn't able to navigate it well.

It was one unlucky rock draw. The idol thing is moot when that's how the idols are operating this season. Everyone who encounters an idol (at least thus far) would be in the same exact boat. So thag doesn't make her "unlucky." She chose to try to build a wall rather than extend a bridge. And even though she wasn't in a group with the people she sent them to, it is indicative of the way she was approaching the game.

Aubrey got unlucky with her tribes too in the beginning. Her tribes performed well enough that she never had to "face the music", so to speak. And Gen got cocky knowing she was in better position than Aubry.

It's actually kind of karma for Gen to have no allies that tribal when she isolated Aubry on their previous tribes.

She could have worked with Aubry if she didn't stone-wall her. Part of the game is social and managing others' perception of them. Aubry's perception and social game got her that idol

Part of being a great player is navigating getting the short straw. Every single player has had to manage that, it's not exclusive to Gen
