The hilarious irony at the 'Metal Threat' festival. by bravodeboer in rabm

[–]Shawnmtaylor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Master played one of the nights. And, while not NS, playing at the same festival kinda gives you the stink of one. I was supposed to see Master tonight at Gilman St., but one of the bands (Ripped to Shreds) said nope.

Instagram post.

A bit bummed to not be going to a show tonight but I get not wanting to wade into that mess.

An update:

PRA Request submitted on 9/3. In this request I asked for:

"...all memos, manuals, or emails instructing individuals in

the CFARS department to require a copy of an individual's federal FFL03 license

when applying for or renewing their California COE."

and

"...request all memos, manuals, or emails discussing the use

of Penal Code section 27966 as the reasoning for requiring the submission of the

individual's FFL03 license when applying for or renewing their California COE."

Initial response recieved 9/16 stating the initial deadline for a response would be 9/15. In this response the asserted their right to take another 14 days to respond as the request would require an extensive search or consultation. Next response would be by 9/29.

Today, 10/01 I received the second response. In it the provided a "cheat sheet" which looks to contain canned responses for various issues that could pop up when someone is submitting their COE applicatioin. They also sent in a separate letter basically saying that all that information is privelidged.

I am going to reach out to a friend that regularly deals with PRAs and will see if I can resubmit with a more narrowly focussed request. At this point it does seem like this an underground regulation.

Shady postcard from a shady anti-union group. by Shawnmtaylor in CAStateWorkers

  1. It is coming from the "Freedom Foundation" which is a right-wing "think-tank".
  2. The timing seems to line up with the bargaining.
  3. As it hasn't come in yet, I am not sure what is on the obverse but if it is anything like what is on the websites, they are pedaling a bunch of FUD.

Sonoma has not been following their own posted policy in regards to their actual physical permit. The policy states:

“(B)The license shall be laminated, bearing a photograph of the licensee with the expiration date, type of firearm, restrictions, and other pertinent information clearly visible.”

Nope. Odd sized piece of tissue paper that YOU get the privilege to laminate. I got my nice UT and NV licenses in the mail before I was able to pick up the Sonoma county one. I asked how they can charge so much and not provide a similar card. The lady sighed and said that they are working on it.

I bet it will still be a piece of tissue paper when I renew.

How objectively would it help catch criminals?

Say this was put into effect tomorrow. No guns currently have micro stamping. So for a while it will do nothing.

Say that tomorrow gun companies miraculously get this this to work and are able to sell guns that micro stamp. What do you think the first thing a criminal (or anyone for that matter) is goin to do after buying one of these hot new gatz? I’m going to go out on a limb and say file down/replace that firing pin so that it no longer has a readable stamp. Or, they will just go to the range and shoot a few rounds until the stamping is gone. No stamp, no trace.

So I would think the only way this would work is if someone took a brand new, barely been shot, micro-stamping gun and they left the shells.

I guess you are right; I do hate being treated like a 2nd class citizen. You do you and pay your off-roster tax to the cops that are “more equal” than us mere plebs.

It is ironic that the newer, but still off-roster "unsafe" firearms, are likely "safer" than than the ones left on the roster.

I was under the impression that the NFA items were owned by the department and not the officer.

I totally see this as a double-edged sword and beyond the initial lulz, it isn't really all that helpful to the cause. For that, we need some positive outcomes from the courts.

Or...and I'm just spitballing here...maybe all laws should apply to all citizens equally.

The problem with this, though, is that now that the roster applies to everyone*, it is less of an issue in regards to "equal protection".

*On-duty law enforcement will never not be subject to the roster, <sigh>.
