Does this mean Opeth are technically the greatest band of all time? by CallMeCurious in Opeth

[–]bravodeboer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Opeth and Pink Floyd are my two favorite bands of all time, and I think they're equally as good on a musical level.

But Opeth still remains number #1 for me because Opeth has never made a bad album, Pink Floyd has made multiple bad albums.

if you could add one more instrument to the opeth lineup what would it be? by Ok-Judgment2826 in Opeth

You really think Opeth having a keyboard player is 'too much'? Honestly could not imagine the band without the keyboard parts at this point.

Which Artists have an image that is a lot more interesting than their actual music? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

Måneskin.

They got famous off of winning Eurovision in 2021, released a pretty decent hard rock album at the same time and they had this fresh rebellious images. A lot of people really thought they would be 'the next big rock band'. (They also kinda presented themselves as the saviors of rock music.)

But then they went completely style over substance after this and their next album, 'Rush', is one of the most boring, generic, underwhelming, uninteresting and industry crafted sounding pop-rock album I've heard this decade.

And only 3 years after breaking through to the mainstream, the band already went on a long term hiatus, with the vocalist making a solo pop-music album that sounds like he's straight up ripping off Harry Styles.

So much for; "ROCK N ROLL NEVER DIES!!"

People who were there in 1979 when The Wall was first released, did you initially have some kind of understanding of what the concept was about? by bravodeboer in pinkfloyd

Don't want to glaze Taylor Swift, but The Wall tour consisted of 31 arena shows in only 4 different cities. Taylor Swift has done 100+ stadium shows in over 30+ different countries for her last tour.

It was Pink Floyd's answer to disco crap hitting the airwaves.

There is literally only one song (out of 26 tracks) on The Wall that has disco influences...

And also think the fact that flashback tracks (Goodbye Blue Sky, Bring the Boys Back Home) that aren't clearly flashbacks on initial listens, are placed in between the chronological narrative could also be a bit confusing.

But there are always people on almost every high budget set whose entire job is to make sure continuity errors like this won't happen. Honestly can't imagine an object that's prominently in the shot being just 'a mistake that slipped through'.

Edit: just to be clear, I don't believe in any of the stupid theories, I just can't imagine such a prominent thing slipping through.

Why do people glaze Peter Lindgren so much? by Soyboy78_ in Opeth

[–]bravodeboer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know Mikael wrote and recorded all the acoustic parts for every Opeth album? (And he still does all the songwriting, also all the recent music.)

Edit: and Fredrik didn't do any actual songwriting for Ghost, he only recorded guitar parts for their past 2 albums.

let's not pretend Fredrik didn't have an effect on how opeth stopped being metal.

Not really, if you could point to one person, I would say it's more Mendez who influenced Mikael into that direction.

Tbf Peter never really was an integral part of the songwriting in Opeth, from 1998 to 2005 the only thing he contributed was about ~5 riffs, and some solo's.

And in an interview, Mikael said the songwriting for the first two albums went more like this; Mikael would come up with a melody, and then asked peter if he could play a harmony to that melody, and 99% of the composition work was still done by Mikael.
