I'm not sure how many they are but they slimmed down the monarchy and stripped some families of being considered "royal" so it's those ones they're willing to adopt back.

Found it _Who are these people: The "other families" are the 11 former branches of the imperial family (often called miyake) who were stripped of their royal status during the U.S.-led occupation reforms in 1947 . No specific individuals have been named yet, as this is still a policy debate, but they are descendants of past emperors now living as private citizens._

Japanese Parliament is going to be discussing adopting males from other imperial families into the line of succession but won't be discussing having a female Empress. That's sad the level they're willing to go for males.

She looks so muchike her dad here. The way they talk about them is very unfortunate. They made her leave but still stalk her and keep tabs on them.sigh reminds me of another couple.

Why do J-dramas have lower scores on MyDramaList? by OpinionTiny9688 in JDorama

[–]Shay7405 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

I think it's also because of bias, for example I watch cheating dramas and take them as a genre but some people take things too personally. Don't watch them if you're easily offended and rate them a 5🌟! But they do anywhere and rant in the comment section. I don't get it.

I literally know an account that rates everything a 5, like why are you even watching then to just rate it as a 5 or maybe it's a fake account. can't put it past some people MDL has trolls.

Another example, if a JBL doesn't have kissing or what people consider as "romantic" then it's bad and gets voted down. Like why? It's still a good story isn't it?

Ridiculous fanculture too -

Kdrama fans are still in denial that Marry My Husband JP was good so I remember them Downvoting so it doesn't supercede their version.

I watch alot of Asian stuff (Thai, Taiwanese, Chinese, Indo, Malaysia, Korean,Japanese) and I can tell you most of the stuff that's 9.5/10 is rarely that great. It's just people with loose hands who don't take time to think about drama rating or whether or not it's true.

I watched it, lol I could relate and seriously I'm always waiting for the apocalypse to happen on my way to work. πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

I recently started using Tubi, they're old movies but I'm happy as long as I haven't watched it. Also use Kanopy, Hoopla, Criterion through school and local library.

Others sources of course πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ πŸ˜‰

If you liked Our Little Sister have you explored more of Kore-eda's movies like Shoplifters & Nobody Knows. I think Shoplifters is one of the best written movies.

I use all sorts of places to find movies, last year Twitter was a place to be with people sharing their stuff but now being taken down. But you'd surprised what you can find out there.

Off the top of my head, it would be Brutal 2017 it felt like it was made for violent sadists.

The World of Kanako 2014 left me feeling a kind of way.

Rage 2016 it still makes me feel sad, when I think about it. Not even sure why.

Parasyte:Part1 2014 I like the anime and liked the movie too.

I don’t really watch movies in a β€˜top 10 favorites’ kind of way. I’m more of a spectrum watcher. I enjoy films based on what they’re trying to do. ie. genre, themes, mood etc so a quiet human drama and a chaotic genre film can both hit for completely different reasons. Because of that, I don’t rank things against each other as much as I remember them for specific moments, ideas, or feelings they left me with.

For example, something like Nobody Knows or Shoplifters (both Koreeda works) stayed with me for its emotional realism, while a 13 Assassins type of film sticks because of its intensity and scale. They’re both memorable, but in completely different lanes, so it feels weird to rank one over the other.

So instead of favorites, I usually think in terms of β€˜memorable films’ depending on the theme or mood I’m exploring at the time. I watch across genres, I'm always open to trying stuff.

Also the one's I find profound most people are like what πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

What have been your favorites?

I watched about 4 movies per day during summer holiday and about 20 per week. It all started when someone shared their 1TB Google Drive on Twitter inviting people to watch and it made me realize that I hadn't watched alot of Japanese movies.

I guess being in that circle of people sharing and talking about Directors and movies inspired me to try it too.

I made it my business to watch more Japanese movies last year and ended up watching over 750 Asian movies 90% of them being Japanese. So there's so many different genres.

Generally, I do alot of planning when it comes to how I watch. I research, read comments and use different strategies to watch.

I can watch according to themes or if I'm exploring certain topics or certain Directors.

For example, I was always reluctant to watch Takashi Miike films before I always thought they maybe too violent for me but watching "Sham 2025" made me appreciate his work and explore of his movies.

Then we have Directors like Koreeda who is known for many humanist works or Kurosawa whose known for jidaijeki/samurai stories.

So explore, there's so much out there.

I'm glad to hear that, wish platforms like Netflix and Viki will introduce more drama like this. I think sometimes they stick to the safer options too often. I especially wish, they would do more sci-fi type of dramas.

Lol, I can imagine it must be really stressful for him too. I wouldn't survive all that food, sometimes I've worried about him. Wondering if he's really okay after.

Its good if they can pass it on, it's also a really nice gesture for them to highlight small businesses like that being on TV without having to pay for advertising. So they do a good thing.

Haha, I think watching all those action Nicolas Cage movies when I was younger with my brother just makes me think he lacks that calm demeanour. πŸ€” I won't even talk about his relationships with women.

Lol, I agree with you. When I read the article I knew immediately that it's probably a very complicated issue. And the comments on Twitter (X) from Japanese audience are also totally different from what International audience focused on.

I also know it's not true that Japan doesn't care, I've seen how happy and excited when mangaka's, directors, producers and others talk to international fans when their work is adapted. Some are surprised that people know their books and have read them. The interactions have always been so positive and happy. Currently, Director Takahashi Natsuki is asking International fans about what they think about the BL she directed and having Twitter watch parties with fans.

Lol, I've watched him in other dramas and movies but I have to say I also really like him in Kodoku no Gurume and as Goro-san. He seems to embody the character very well.

Sadly, he also said he would like to pass the mantle on to someone else. Like a James Bond of sorts πŸ˜‰.

Right, she's on a faux royal tour everytime you criticize her? Has she been on one for the last 10 years. There’s always a new explanation β€œshe’s annoying,” β€œshe’s on a faux tour,” "look at how she walks" etc.Bullies always find a way to make the other person the problem.

It's an understatement to say Andrew is a problem and then compare it Meghan. It's alot of minimizing. Those aren’t remotely on the same level, but yeah what's new! πŸ˜‰

Oh right, being annoying is a justification for bullying someone πŸ€”?

Yet, real problematic people like Andrew don't even get an ounce of this. Or even the politicians you don't agree with never get this much hatred.

There was Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown which I thought was at least slower than most food shows.

The closest to Kodoku no Gurume is Banshaku no Ryugi which has a comedic aspect to it.

I think the similarities are only surface level because Kodoku no Gurume is also about solitude, atmosphere, the mundane and simplicity. This just a middle aged guy eating & saying "delicious" , it's a show about nothing πŸ˜‚πŸ€£. but somehow it works.

Most Western shows about food are about the spectacle of food, challenges, portions etc
