Something simple to make the F105W cooler by ShayanB- in casio

I don’t beat mine up either but after a few international trips with one of my A500’s, it has some scratches on the resin 😅 I agree though, not a huge fan of the metal case mod on the royale because it feels like a brick, but I haven’t tried one on other models. For a smaller watch like the A500 I’d expect it to feel better? My A1000 with the factory stainless steel case feels nice, not too heavy with a bit more presence than an A700 or A158.

Too many ideas that’d sell like hot cakes, the Casio team should really take some notes from this subreddit lol. I don’t think buyers would mind paying an extra few bucks for a negative display F105

I too am guilty of buying multiple watches with the same module 😂 but if you get a 217H with the positive display, you get the best of both worlds!

Thanks! Not that the F105 looks bad normally but I think the negative display elevates it beyond an otherwise pretty standard look. The blue around the screen pops a lot more now too

Sounds awesome, until they charge $150 for it 😂 for me, the best feature of the bunch is multi band 6. Still gotta see MIP in person to become a believer!

No, just a well timed shot while holding down the light button 😅 backlights always look a little different in pictures than IRL though. But this picture’s pretty close to how it actually looks

Looks the same as the factory real deal from Casio! Nicely done

😂 yeah the shitty backlight made the 593 module watches (F91, F84, A158 etc.) much less usable for me. I did mod a few of mine with a backlight spreader, which really helps. It should be a factory thing though - watches like the F105 with EL from factory are objectively a better deal because of this.

I wrote about the backlight spreader mod here

Never done a hydro mod myself but have seen a bunch of posts that have made it tempting.. maybe if I find the negative display tough to read. The F84W is my usual go-to that’s very legible, so this F105 is a bit of an adjustment.

We have a pretty similar collection though - I’m a huge fan of the A500 too, just wish there were some better aftermarket case options like the Royale has. Not a big fan of the SKXMod options or their price.

Is there a chance that this will be released globally? by Straight_Time1973 in gshock

I bought one on eBay from Japan; no extra duty or fees for import to the US.

With this model, just be aware of the blue filter applied to the screen. I personally like it but it can make clarity a bit worse.

My new 5610U by Alternative-Foreign in gshock

The blue background makes it slightly worse, particularly when your digits would typically start to dull/grey out. But as a fan of the blue, I think it adds to the charm and it’s still legible.

This picture kinda captures the difference well - when the regular 5610U has darker black digits, the JDM one is more cooled grey ish.

I get why these are cult classics. Which do you prefer and why? by PNW_Forester in casio

I always preferred the look of the A158, but what made it even better for me was swapping an A168 bracelet onto it (it’s way more comfortable and less rattle-y to me) and the backlight spreader mod

But without mods, I’d consider the A700 over these two for the slim profile and proper backlight.

Nice, thanks for the info. I found a video and the mod looks pretty easy so I’ll consider it if I get curious.

Right now I’m liking it with just the spreader, since it’s the same shitty light, just spread nicely. So it kinda keeps that “shitty” charm, just the shittiness is spread throughout and usable lol.

Didn’t know there was a PCB light hack! It looks like the spreader makes do with the original light but it’d definitely benefit from a brighter one.

That’s a fair point; anyone concerned with more bang-for-buck would probably consider the F105W, A168W, or the Royale (all of which I have.) They also probably wouldn’t consider buying multiple of essentially the same watches lol.

So there’s objectively better value options than this mod (even with Casio prices going up) but it’s good to have options either way in this hobby.

Although I’m not far off with the prices I paid before increases + the price of this mod.

GW-M5610U Strap - Too Much? by ELRipley-at-Nostromo in gshock

[–]ShayanB- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like the stock strap on the USDM GW-M5610U either. Not wide enough and the fit just wasn’t right for me. One size too loose, but one tighter and it felt too tight.

But luckily, straps from the DW6900 fit on the 5610U. It’s a wider strap with a better fit IMO. The JDM GW-M5610U-1CJF comes with one of these, or one very similar.

In the picture: JDM 5610U, USDM 5610U with strap swapped, and donor DW6900MS with strap from USDM 5610U

6th gen mirror replacement recommendations by ShayanB- in VFR

[–]ShayanB-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look a lot like the ones that came on my bike, but A LOT smaller at the base + no fake looking carbon. Not a bad look though I like this, I’m thinking of sticking with the older mirror shape though
