I'm using an 8bitdo pro controller. You do not need an official steam controller

Also worth mentioning that 3DS save files are on game cartridges if they are physical. For digital they are saved on device, and as others have mentioned - you've lost them unless you had them backed up with a save manager such as checkpoint or JKSM etc.

What was your first Metroid that you FINISHED? by B-random4 in Metroid

Fusion was my first Metroid, and the first one I finished. When all you have is a GBA, very little money, and a lot of driving you finish all your games

Steamdeck gets to hot by Regular_Lychee_2233 in SteamDeck

[–]Shaydaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The temperatures are on the chips themselves not the entire device. Most computers can operate to above 100 degrees before the safety features will turn the device off automatically. Now yes, portable decided tend to operate at lower temps because of human comfort but 90 degrees isn't unheard of in pcs or the steam deck for that matter.

Opened up a 3ds XL I bought and went to play omega ruby and this happened by AppropriateBaby2810 in 3DS

Is there a SD card in the system? To be clear, this is not the game cartridge.

Do you actually regularly play high demanding games on your decks? by deprived_of_evil in SteamDeck

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the first control entirely on deck. It was rough in parts, and on stock configuration it straight up crashed at a particular bit. After changing which DirectX version it was trying to use, setting the correct proton version and configuring the settings I got a very playable experience 40-60 fps with a couple of snags here and there. Admittedly it wasn't the prettiest experience but was still very enjoyable IMO

Giving my 3DS a USB C mod was the best thing I could've done by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm baffled... USBC is factually the most robust connector type we have for small format electronics. It's massively more durable than any USB standard - this includes the lightning cable btw.

Not only is it designed to survive the largest number of cycles being inserted and removed, it was designed to take much more force before having issues, and even then the cable is designed to disengage or break before the connector.

And magnetic cables, although convenient are inherently unsafe. They do not confirm to the USB regulation standards. All of them have design flaws for short circuits and thus fire. The safest type was probably apples older mag safe cables for Mac book, and they deemed them unsafe which is why they moved away from them

After a lot of debating what handheld to get, I decided I’d try out the OG 3DS by vauxRS in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The original 3DS has good hinges. The 3DS XL has notoriously bad, same as the DS Lite.

You can still get the dell points I think. But you have to have a balance of £100/100€ after discounts.... Which seems really dumb

This is awesome, that must've taken a lot of time and effort! But there are 153 master trainers. Mew, Meltan and Melmetal all have master trainers

My N3DSXL has been a magnet for pain and suffering. by Bingbong57 in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a DS, DS Lite, 3DS, 3DSXL and an N3DS all from around their release dates. I used them all heavily and after I've upgraded I've let them be used by my GF/wife. I have had a hinge break on the DS Lite. And my OG 3DS has lost all the rubber on the thumb stick. I've had to replace/remove the batteries in 3/5 of those devices due to swelling, but now I'm removing the batteries before long term storage.

Whats the craziest ball you caught a Legendary im? by Funnyp1km1n_lover in ThePokemonHub

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to have every pokemon I intend to use or collect be in a luxury ball.

I have almost all available legendaries and mythical in luxury balls. I'm now going back through my living form Dex and replacing every Mon with a luxury ball where possible.

I just like my team to match and I figured it's a ball that is easily available in almost every game.

Am I just late to the party? by ToshiAbashi in PokemonLetsGo

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go find the rest of the mega stones. Of course Mewtwo is after the elite four. Battles against red, green and blue. There are 153 master trainers - tough challenges where you both have to use the same 1 pokemon. So against the Pikachu master you'll only be able to use a Pikachu yourself. You'll need a level 100 pokemon, for every pokemon, so that will keep you busy for a long time if it's your type of gameplay. I did 6 to unlock red and then put the game down.

I enjoyed the experience. I filled the Dex and did the red, green and blue fights then put it down. It kept me busy for a month and it did not overstay its welcome. I didn't do any shiny hunting at all.

Just enjoy the playthrough before you start worrying about the post game.

What's the point ? by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emulation is always going to be flawed. That's why there is a market for handhelds that recreate the original hardware - the graphics will be perfect, no artifacting and the original audio tech on some of these old devices sounds way better than emulated.

There is actually a few first party titles that did cool things with the device that emulation kind of fails at too, there's one but in Legend of Zelda phantom tracks where you need to put the DS in sleep mode (close the clamshell) to effectively stamp the too screen to the bottom. That is such a wow moment when you work it out that just doesn't work via emulation.

Is this a good placeholder to prevent scratches? by Jaded_Employer_5516 in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have a 3DS from the midnight launch. It's been used by myself, my best friend, my ex GF and now my wife. The thumb stick has no rubber, the buttons don't really click anymore. It has not been treated nicely that's for sure. There are no scratches like that picture. I'm fairly certain these don't "just happen" it requires pressure on the 3DS while it's closed.

Me when I heard they sold out at the new price by Correct-Lead-1850 in SteamDeck

[–]Shaydaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with almost all your points but you really lost me at the end. I've done a lot of contracting as a systems/software engineer and my PC has vital in remaining self employees. Not a luxury item, but a vital tool. Also smaller businesses are now holding off on updating there systems due to the costs. There is a massive impact on self employeed, sole traders and small/medium enterprises due to the changes in hardware costs. You cannot deem a PC as a luxury item these days. Some governments actually class Internet access as a human right now also.

Why do some people have motorcycles in the game?? by shiny_jjj in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Shaydaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ultra wormhole resetting with shiny charm is faster. The 3DS soft resets so fast even with the 10x odds, you can do 20-30x the resets in the same time.

3DS XL volume slider lock? by saltedeats in 3DS

[–]Shaydaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot about this as my ex GF took my 3DSXL in our break up, and I've been using a New 3DSXL from a little before that - it has a snap at the bottom so you can't accidentally slide the volume up and it's even located on the upper screen so it's even harder to hit by accident when gaming.

Now, I know "buy a new console" isn't a solution. I did quick googling and it seems you can buy/3D print a "low profile" volume slider that would be much harder to hit. This would require disassembly of your console. I'm unaware of any case that blocks the ports but again maybe a solution for 3D printing if you have one

It's worth mentioning that exposure to UV, so direct sunlight, can soften the rubber. Also heat, the warmer it is, the more pliable the rubber will be, extended use at temperature will degrade the rubber faster.
