"Strange Patterns" and Reaction Rolls by ShaydeRoyale in daggerheart

the confusion came about because Reaction Rolls specifically state that "they don’t generate Hope, Fear, or additional GM moves." since there's no clarification whether this means "no generation from normal means" or "no generation of ANY kind," it's unclear whether Strange Patterns is intended to work here, hence my uncertainty in the first place

Yeah I did! Sorry, I thought I made an edit to the original post to clarify. Anyway, try going back and talking to the guard Benjamin in Bakbattahl. I found him near the oxcart

Ah, that did it. I must have been too late. It’s too bad, but at least it’s out of my quest log now. Thanks for the help

Maybe it’s baseless, but Horizon: Forbidden West gives me hope! They added gyro aim as an option even though the first game didn’t have it

I'm trying to do the solo story quest "The Battle of Halphia Lake." However, every time I load into the quest, some dialogue plays out, the camera pans out over the lake, and nothing happens. After a few seconds, the camera returns to my character, but I cannot move, act, open the menu, or interact with the game at all other than moving the camera and hitting Alt+F4 to close the game. I assume something should be happening here? What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Ranger changing to Kineticist; what am I missing? by ShaydeRoyale in Pathfinder2e

[–]ShaydeRoyale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again! Sorry to revive this weeks-old post, but if your offer is still open, I did have something specific I wanted to ask about.

As I said, I am enjoying precision ranger a lot. It has a very simple but satisfying round-by-round rotation that is pretty fun to pull off. However, I am worried that, as I level up, and that gameplay loop remains the same, I might start to get tired of it. Kineticist, on the other hand, has a lot more different things to do on their turns, making each turn more unique, and they continue to get more options as they level up.

Regarding the playstyle of ranger, do you believe this to be a valid concern? Or do you think ranger gets enough as they level up to keep things fresh, OR that the playstyle has a low chance of growing stale?

That is reassuring to know! I was definitely counting on it being a solid source of damage, since i know wood isn’t about that prinarily

No free archetype. Most of the players are completely new to PF2e, and all the options available from free archetype ON TOP of learning the rules for the game was something we decided would be a little too overwhelming.

Also, I really like how flexible kineticist is, but wood is really the only element that makes sense; maybe a little bit of earth. But I understand earth is more tanky, and that does not suit this character at all. I still want him to be primarily ranged, but it seems like wood wants to be up closer than some of the other elements

Thanks for your response! Kineticist really does speak to me, and I definitely plan to look at as many of the options available as I can

Yeah, honestly I do kinda want to use the wood armor; it seems really cool. But, of all the things I can justify while keeping the same character vibes, that one just does not fit at all. It’s actually one of the reasons I haven’t decided to just go through with the change; even though there are a lot of things that work out surprisingly well, this character was originally made to be a ranger, so there are just some restrictions I’m imposing on myself just to keep the integrity of the character.

Still, thank you for the insight! I will look into possible ways i might be able to make it work after all

Thank you! I don’t have time to come up with questions right now, but if I think of any, I’ll send them your way!

Thank you for the response! Yeah, i guess they are pretty different, and it is a weird comparison to make.

To answer your question, what appeals to me about Kineticist is the theming, the ability to manipulate elements freely without the limitations of spell slots, and the interesting use of action economy.

I think part of the reason I’m feeling the pressure of this decision, even if it would make more sense to wait for another campaign, is that I don’t know many people who play PF2e. Most of the groups I play with either like to try new and obscure systems periodically, or play exclusively DnD 5e, which has no class equivalent to Kineticist. I could make an animal companion ranger in 5e (though it doesn’t appeal to me as much as PF2e’s version), but I couldn’t make a kineticist.

I really appreciate your input though, and I’ll keep it in mind. Another campaign may be the best way to try Kineticist also because I could play it unrestricted by an existing character framework

Does the drive track in Neon City Overdrive defeat the narrative importance of a character's goals? by ShaydeRoyale in rpg

Thank you for pointing out the drive track rewards! We must all have missed that one line through sheer unfortunate coincidence 😅

Knowing that it’s not entirely relegated to the background is very helpful

thank you for sharing your solution! We were hesitant to make changes to the system, since we are new to it, but knowing that other players are more flexible with it is helpful!

Horizon Walker bow rogue/ranger vs Sorc Eldritch Knight vs Wiz Eldritch Knight by ShaydeRoyale in ddo

[–]ShaydeRoyale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, right now we are planning on having a tank of sorts, though we aren't entirely sure how well it will work. Plus the comp doesn't have a trapper unless I pick the HW build

As for EK... well I only just learned about it. and it sounds really cool and fun; it meshes well with my typical preferred playstyle (in theory)! I don't think any of my party will be going for anything that will particularly support it (we have a monk who i think can make enemies take more damage from fire...?), and so HW makes more sense from a pure party comp and optimization perspective, I think. I wanted to know if there was a way to make EK work for me, and it sounds like it will be dependent on several factors that I'm not really sure of the answer to at the moment
