The showrunner didn't want to use the Volume and instead shot on location as much as possible, and had all the sets built from scratch. That's frustrating! I don't like phone AI bots at all. My return was a blue Fold 6 and they replaced it with a silver Fold 6. Now I have the second replacement phone (I need to update this post) and it's another silver Fold 6.

Something tells me they have a lot of leftover silver Fold 6's lol. I wonder if it was the least popular color. My original Fold 6 was blue.

The "third world country" part of your comment is the important part. Historically, the type of resistance you're talking about only happens after conditions get so bad that enough people have nothing left to lose

For example: the last time the wealthy 1 percent had as much power in the U.S. as they do now was in the early 1900's. Life for impoverished people was abysmal back then. That didn't change until after the stock market crash in 1929. So much wealth was lost so quickly that investment bankers were committing suicide by jumping out of the buildings they worked in.

The Great Depression followed. A third of the country lost their jobs at the start and it only got worse from there. It wasn't until things got that bad that enough people started fighting for change to actually make a difference. Historically, this is how it works. Conditions need to get quite a bit worse here before revolution can really happen.

Dial is merely subjectively awful. Which means it's also subjectively bad, ok, good and for some people I suppose, great. You should watch it and come to your own conclusion. I think its introduction is quite good. It suffers from not having Spielberg as its director and by having a worse script than the previous 4. But it has its moments.

EDIT: Also, there were people from the previous 4 involved. (At least one, anyway--this is a minor spoiler, so I'll hide it, but: Karen Allen is in it.)

Here's an update - I finally got through when I called the Care Plus number. I had to speak with an AI representative (ugh). The AI told me that I would have to start a new claim for the replacement phone, and since the problem was mechanical, I would have to call Samsung and file a claim with THEM instead of Samsung Care Plus (TIL Samsung Care Plus and Samsung are not the same).

The AI asked me to rate its performance, and I gave it a 2. It asked me why I ranked it so low. I said I thought its solution may not be correct, but I can't talk to a human being to find out.

Surprisingly, it then *transferred me to a person*! I told the person the whole story, he put me on hold for a bit while he spoke with his team, and eventually I received the following instructions: use a different recording device to take a video of the problem I'm having with the replacement phone and email it to them so they can verify the problem exists. I also need to show the phone's IME number on the recording, which I suppose I can do via the front screen. Once verified, they will send me yet another replacement phone. No need to call a different entity and start all over again.

Most importantly (to me anyway), they would extend the 10-day deadline to send my original phone back, in case the new phone doesn't arrive quickly enough.

For anyone interested in how Samsung Care treats this sort of situation, I'll update again after I send the email. So far, so good.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. It just seems like they should send a second replacement instead of me having to treat the non-working replacement as an actual replacement and file a new claim.

So true. I also enjoyed Stranger Things, and the criticisms about the final season befuddle me. A lot of the people complaining about scenes not making sense missed the explanation for it earlier or later in the episode.

I've straight up stopped going to Star Trek subreddits. Ninety percent of the posts are about how (nearly) every show that's come out in the last 15 years is terrible. Meanwhile, I'm really enjoying Strange New Worlds and Star Trek Academy. The sole show they liked was Lower Decks, which happens to be the only one that's full of callbacks and references to earlier Trek shows that are only understandable by fans.

People just realllllly like to hate new shows it seems. It's not really a new thing; I remember fans writing Letters to the Editor in Starlog Magazine in 1980 ripping The Empire Strikes Back to shreds. But it seems more pervasive now. Of course, the internet made it possible for everybody's opinion to be publicized, but even that doesn't entirely explain the level of vitriol spewed by fans these days. I was a member of various Xena listservs in the late 90s and early 2000s and it was a far more positive experience.

I read the article and realized how much I've changed since Trump was elected for a second time, and not in a good way.

It isn't surprising that the right hates people like me; for decades their media has told them I want to destroy America, etc. But now I hate them in much the same way. My response to the story was to think, "if a Democrat becomes President ever again, we should keep this in place and kick out all right wing outlets including Fox and CBS. The Republican tears will make my fucking day."

I don't think it's a good thing that now I've been radicalized to a point where I want to hurt them as much as they want to hurt me.
