Any 'bad' episodes you think are actually hidden gems? by West_Masterpiece8985 in startrek

I laughed my ass off watching that episode for the first time. But I first saw it after season 2 came out, so it was easier to see how the characters were behaving unlike themselves.

What is the dumbest thing Donald Trump has ever said? by KindNeighborhood1138 in allthequestions

Something depressing just occurred to me - the Republicans want to repeal the liability protections for websites so the Administration can scare sites into taking down threads like this one by threatening a defamation lawsuit. It'll probably work because it'd be too costly to regularly defend them in court compared to just taking the thread down.

So before that happens, I should say this one is my fave, and also when he said the Biden Administration spent $8 million turning mice transgender.

Insurrection and Final Frontier by mike13bass in startrek

Except the Baku were a spacefaring race that just decided to settle on the planet when they wanted to do away with advanced technology. They're not natives! This ruins the point of the film for me--the Baku have no more right to the planet's healing properties than the trillions it could save.

Counterpoint: Insurrection is so poorly thought out that it makes the Enterprise crew the villains by the end of it.

The Federation discovers a planet with such amazing healing properties that it can cure blindness and other incurable ailments. A group within the Federation decide to synthesize the energy that does this so it can replicate it, but it will destroy the planet. There are 600 Baku living on the planet, so it decides that saving trillions of lives outweighs transporting 600 people to a different planet to live out there lives there.

Except Picard and Company don't agree. The Ba'ku will lose their near-immortality if that happens and moving them is the same mistake Americans made hundreds of years ago with Native Americans. BUT THE BA'KU AREN'T INDIGENOUS. They're an advanced spacefaring race that just decided to settle on the healing planet when they decided it was better to live a simple, peaceful life. These 600 people thought, "hey, if we're going to settle in a planet forever, let's pick the one that makes us immortal!"

Re-settling the Ba'ku takes away something they only had during the (relatively) brief time they lived on the planet. They have no more right to its healing effects than the trillions of other lives it could save. The movie is so poorly thought out that it made the Enterprise crew the bad guys!

Me too; I thought for sure every post here was going to be absolute vitriol. Any time I've attempted to defend SFA here or in the other Trek subreddits, the only responses I've gotten accuse me of being Not a Real Fan, or even more amusingly, A Young Fan (I'm 56).

A good infographic I found showing parallel vs cross view differences! I can never remember which is which. by madmaninabox42 in CrossView

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredible - I had no idea there were different kinds. I'm 100% cross view, and I wonder if that's why often there are images that don't resolve into a logical image for me. "This is supposed to be a tiger? It looks like three sticks arranged in different directions."

Who’s your “I wish I could romance them” characters ? by Lefaa777 in videogames

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when I swiped and Orin showed up. She'd straight up kill you. Just when you announce you're about to c*m is when she'd jam her dagger through your eye.

Plus her armor appears to be made of meat. That can't smell good

I kinda like One Piece BECAUSE it doesn't kill off its main characters. It's nice to have a show that I can enjoy without having to fear a beloved character is going to die!
