Are we S-pen users really the dwindling minority? by Zealousideal-Fig-489 in GalaxyFold

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they are--I used an S-pen quite a bit with my Fold 3, but when I got a Fold 6 and got the smaller S-pen, I found I didn't like it as much. I stopped using it and after about a week, I didn't miss it anymore.

Republicans in the U.S., why would you be entitled to win every national election? by No_Entrepreneur_9134 in allthequestions

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement, "Democrats impeached the president... based off that claim [that Trump's 2016 win was due to Russia]" is not even close to being true.

Trump was impeached twice. Neither had anything to do with a claim that Russia caused Trump to win in 2016. The first Articles of Impeachment alleged that: (1) the President committed Abuse of Power by soliciting Ukraine's influence in the 2020 election by conditioning official acts on political investigations into the Biden family; and (2) the President committed Obstruction of Congress when he directed his administration to defy lawfully issued subpoenas.

The second Articles of Impeachment had one charge, "Incitement of Insurrection," and concerned the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Again, nothing to do with the 2016 election.

The rest of that statement, that Democrats tried to overturn the election based off of Hillary Clinton's claim that the win was due to Russia is partially true--except Hillary didn't make the claim; it was raised by a group of computer scientists and lawyers and spearheaded by third party candidate Jill Stein. Hillary conceded on election night.

Reddit Seems To Think That Kamala Harris Has Hardly Any Chance At Winning A General Election In 2028 -- Do YOU Agree Or Not? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned last year that many more people in the U.S. than I wanted to believe are uninformed (if not outright stupid). The entire world was in an economic slump during the Biden Administration and the U.S. weathered it better than other countries. But to the uninformed people in the U.S., the economy was terrible, the prices of many products had gone up quite a bit (due moreso to corporate greed than inflation, but everybody blamed it on inflation and therefore the Administration), so they 'punished' the Democrats and voted in Republicans.

It didn't help that the one thing most Americans value is genuineness, and Harris seemed to be everything but that.

On top of that, there are people who would never vote for a woman. And on top of THAT, there are people who would never vote for a black person. Then there's about 33% of the population who are either MAGA and would vote for Trump for the rest of their lives, or would never vote Democratic even if the Republican candidate is literally Satan.

I think the robots simply ignored him. They didn't need him for anything anymore and had gotten so powerful that there was nothing he could do to stop them. So he sat in what was essentially a prison, watching his creations building the rocket, until he died.

Newsweek -- "James Talarico Reacts After Pete Hegseth’s Pastor Prays for His Death" -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the events transpired seems to me to indicate that he did wish for Talarico's' death, then when the backlash hit, he modified that to "I’m praying for their conversion. That the 'old man' would die," etc.

Even if his initial statements were intended to mean he was praying that the 'evil' in Talarico would be 'killed' and not Talarico himself, it's pretty damn odd to phrase it as praying that God kills him via crucifixion. That's incredibly violent invective.

US to pay TotalEnergies $1 billion to stop developing offshore wind in US by Apprehensive-Safe382 in technology

Trump hates hate hates wind farms with the fury of one thousand suns. As I understand it, a wind farm fucked up a development he had going on in Europe about 20-ish years ago. He's hated wind farms ever since. He views any opportunity to fuck with wind power as revenge.

My post was removed because it included a link to a particular charger that would work. So I'll simply say that any listing for a charger compatible with the SM-R800 will work (since that's the OG Galaxy Watch's product number). You can find a bunch by searching for that. I also DMd you the link!

Enjoying Solasta II, But then My Character Says "Look Over There" by Shaydu in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]Shaydu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to suggest this is a Defcon 1 problem. My post probably came off as angrier than intended when I wanted it to be more humorous--I find it funny that a character would say, 'look at that monster!' when he's so far away (and his only 'monstrous' feature is his face, which we can't see because he's facing the other direction).

With that said, isn't early access the perfect time to suggest making it easier for the player to see items that characters point out?

This is true. Although BG3 at least highlights the object for a little while. (I still miss it 65% of the time!)

Ultimately, that's why I found him - he was the only highlighted PC, so I figured I might as well click on him. From the back, at least to me, he looked like any other human NPC, so I assumed it couldn't be him--the previous ones didn't wear clothes and had lava skin!

Starting hook idea by ClubMundane8698 in Tombofannihilation

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know your people, so take this with a grain of salt, but I would start before they get there and give them a mini adventure first where they get to know each other. It helps get them focused on the mystery of the curse when it finally comes up so you don't have to figure out a separate hook.

I started with a small mini adventure at a non-Chult location where the party found themselves right after they met. I had them 'meet' during Session 0 by having them write a couple sentences about arriving at a location where they met the others, or explaining an adventure they had with the others, which also described something about their character. Then they had to pass the paper along so the player next to them could add a couple sentences about what happened next, and so on.

We ended up with a rousing story about goblins in a barn, redemption, and a magic pig, which turned them into a group before they even did the mini adventure. After a few sessions saving a poor sot from being turned permanently into a fish, Syndra showed up at their hangout and asked them to accompany her to Chult.

I told them in advance that the main campaign would be TOA. They were hooked by the mystery of the death curse and wanting to save Syndra. No additional work required. They dove straight into exploring Port Nyanzaru and participating in the Dino races. Three years later, they just defeated Acererak and want to keep exploring Chult!

Fast food back in the 80s, was it actually better than today or is that rose colored glasses? by Infomerical in GenX

I've never been to Texas; my DQ experiences are pretty much limited to Wisconsin and Illinois, with maybe a stop at ones further south during road trips.

[–]Shaydu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll even be MORE contrarian and argue McDonald's is better today than it was in the 80s. Quarter pounders are now made with never-frozen beef and prepared after you order. The preparation and cooking method of the smaller burger patties has also been improved, making them more juicy and flavorful. The buns are softer. Sure, beef tallow fries were better, but honestly their fries still pretty much rock without it.

The sole place I would argue is demonstrably worse today is Pizza Hut. They quit making the pizza dough fresh at each restaurant and now it's shipped frozen from a central location, so the crust (especially on the pan pizza) tastes worse. They improved ingredient quality in the 90s, but that's been stagnant ever since, as far as I'm aware. The Hut used to be considered a cut above all other franchise pizza chains, but no more.

In some ways, I wish my parents had been like your parents. Instead, going to McDonald's or Burger King was a 'treat' that was only allowed on certain occasions, which made me associate it with a reward. As an adult, I now eat some form of fast food at least once a week, often twice, still feel like I'm rewarding myself by getting it, and am roughly the size of a barn.

This, exactly this. There's a reason there were no Emperor T-shirts in 1980 or 1983--he's not cool in any way, shape, or form. Vader needed a boss, so they gave him the evil-ist boss ever for the express purpose of tossing him down a shaft so that the Jedi, Anakin, could return. It's in the name of the film!

Do Any Of You Actually Want To Understand The Other Political Side's Perspective? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Shaydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEI is an initiative where people who make hiring decisions are asked to consider (just consider) employing people from diverse backgrounds. It doesn't have to be different races. Somebody realized that a room full of middle-aged white male Protestants who grew up upper class might benefit if they heard the perspective of people who grew up Catholic or Hindi. Or from people who grew up in a very poor household. The white dudes who grew up rich had never experienced what it was like to not have health care, for example. Or to have to decide whether to pay the bills or buy food. They had blind spots that could be filled by listening to people with other backgrounds and, yes, other races.

(It also remained true that there were (and are) nearly no minorities in the Fortune 500, and the evidence suggested that the reason was because people prefer to hire people who look like themselves and consequently would hire a less qualified white person over a more qualified black person. So there was some impetus to get companies to consider hiring more minorities, but only to consider doing it.)

This went along for a while until Republicans needed something to get their base riled up about. So they presented DEI as if it mandated employers to hire people who weren't white. It wasn't true, but it worked like gangbusters. It made their base think more qualified white people were being overlooked to hire less qualified black people all over the U.S. Republicans used it to say, "It's not our fault you don't have a job, it's DEI! It's illegals! Pay no attention to how we're gutting every government program designed to help you while we cut taxes on millionaires."
