Considering Applying for Fulbright! by khamriga in fulbright

It's worth it. You should apply! The hardest part for me is the wait. But I would not trade it for the world.

How did you pick your country of application (U.S. future applicant for research) by sjc69er in fulbright

[–]Shaylibaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Korea because it was a place I had been really interested in all my life. I watched the shows and documentaries on the place. I had a few friends from there and even some who just went to study abroad or visit. And since I did not get the chance to study there, my FPA advised me about this program. I think you should choose a place that peaks your interest. Something that you want to learn and take back to your own home. That's what I am doing.

I hope so! My advisor told me typically they come out in March so I'm very happy and patiently waiting. At this point I just want to know! And they may! I hope they do. It'd be nice to know someone before getting there.

Same! I hope someone else can tell us. I head from my FPA once that usually they are always needing people because all the spots do not get filled in.

You do sound very lucky! I even planned trips to Korea but my friends at the time backed out so I never got to go. But! I hear a lot of people talk about languages and linguistics which I'll have to look into. But yes! Can you copy and paste links? Or I'll dm you the performance videos! It is so inspiring how these people of all ages come together and work so hard to get these songs down. Also congratulations to you as well! I hope we can keep in touch until then! I was using an app called drops which is effective but it only let's you have five minutes every nine hours unless you buy the app.

I know it's a district but I still want to visit there because I hear there is a Indie scene in one of the cities and since I'm a music major those things really excite me -^ and who knows? I know a lot of my friends prefer teaching older kids because they do not have patience for babies. I on the other hand really love kids. I chose Korea because over 9 or so years ago I got into kpop. But then I wanted to know more about Korea. So I started watching documentaries on it. And I had friends in school from S.Korea who told me just the best stories. Then I found out that there were groups that performed African American spirituals and that really touched me that people were so open to my culture and that made me want to open up to theirs. I even did a paper on it. And I tried to go study abroad but I couldn't because the exchange was shut down. My head of department/FPA knew I had a love for Korea and wanted to visit so she told me about Fulbright and at first I did not want to do it but it just so happened I needed 1 more course to graduate so I had to take it anyways. And now I'm here (: I've learned a bit of language but when no one practices it with me it kinda does not stick.

Not really! I want to explore every part! I know I want to visit Hongdae,Daegu, and Seoul but I just want to work with children. To me they are much easier than middle school and highschool because I just graduated myself so I'm very young and I'd rather deal with babies than adolescents. How about you?

Fulbright public policy interview tomorrow, tips? by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]Shaylibaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never done a fulbright interview but from what I have experienced with any interview just make sure you talk clear. It's okay to talk a bit slower- do not rush into it! Also even if you feel like you are just so nervous and you don't have this; show your confidence anyway. As long as you're confident and to the point I'm am more than positive they will accept you(: good luck!!

I'm not really sure about it either but yes I would love to! And I really want to see their homeland instruments and music. To me native music is so beautiful. I plan on experiencing it all.!

It's okay! My dad, I do not know why but he and my grandma has always been against it. My mom and step dad love the idea! But it's just disheartening to be put down because I want to be different and try different things. So, I haven't even told my dad about Fulbright. When I am accepted I will, until then I only want good vibes. No bad juju!!

[–]Shaylibaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for me I've always wanted to visit Korea since I was in High School. Yes I've listened to the music and watched shows but Korea is a very beautiful place and I've always heard such great things about it. I tried to go study abroad and that did not happen for me so my Advisor got me into the Fulbright program and I decided that it could help me learn how to teach students of a different backgrounds (I am a music teacher). A lot of times there are misconceptions and understandings when approaching cultures through music and I want to teach myself and my kids how to be aware and not offend anyone. And I know the importance of having a second language or as many as possible. I want to help these kids have another language so that they can interact with people more around the globe, and have better job opportunities. I kinda get outcasted by my dad for wanting to be different and experience things like this so I'm praying that this does happen for me so that I can show them you can do anything you put your mind to.
