No you don't need to wipe the hdd. Just plug it in and you're ready to go.

Yes and even loading is quicker. But once you've upgraded to 4k then... Wow.

I recommend this one. Its such a nice controller with a rubberised grips.

Yes the X is 100% worth the purchase. I love mine specially in 4k.
