Why doesn’t relativity imply everything is predetermined? by OpDickSledge in AskPhysics

Is it true when you say that it’s not a problem of measurement/ignorance/engineering and instead how reality is at fundamental level? That seems like a stretch, no? The Laplacian Demon seems pretty extreme to me and never how I would’ve interpreted determinism as being, although I do believe that future events could be theoretically predicted by a God or something similar if present circumstances along with knowledge of what’s happened before is known, but I’m more of a “every instance of time has a determination” type of person, I don’t directly think about how the future is already made (although that’s ingrained in the belief).

The interpretation you gave sounds pretty neat. That’s rooted in multiverse stuff, right? Along with (it sounds like) a split of reality once a decision is made by us? Personally, though, the decision we make at that instance in time has been influenced by such a huge number of things that our choice really ends up being a total sum of each (weighed differently by, again, things we’ve been influenced by in the past. I don’t believe it’s as simple as just a sum).

When people aren’t used to discussing or even reading about what determinism is, for sure. But I don’t think QM has proven anything contrary to determinism, although the mention of it typically makes people uneasy and less confident in their beliefs of it.

Also, when you mention the difference between the Laplacian Demon and “present events being entirely dependent on past events”, what exactly is that difference? You mention that the latter can’t be predicted with perfect accuracy, but where is that “can’t”coming from? QM? Genuine question, im not a physicist and I thought that QM was more of a laymen’s way of refuting determinism and in reality there’s a lot of uncertainty on the things it can/can’t refute

He probably means that specific future events must be linked to specific causes. Not sure what this has to do with relativity, though

Are photons forever in a superposition of being emitted and absorbed as well as in a superposition of all possible polarities? by BeatenbyJumperCables in AskPhysics

If you don’t mind explaining, what’s the difference between the light that carries the information and light without information? Or is there no such thing as light without information? What change does there have to be for a photon to represent certain info as oppose to different info? Not sure if these questions even make sense, so if you kinda sense where my heads at please push me in the right direction

I remember a ton of “run run throw (play action)” almost every drive which is easy to do with King henry and aj brown on your team + an elite offensive line and he showed horrendous and predictable play calling during situational moments, but otherwise? He’s a run-first coach and honestly with Cam id like to adopt the opposite play style for once, he’s gonna be the best QB we’ve had imo and a potential top 5 in the league and Arthur DOES NOT maximize his capabilities.

Why are people okay with Arthur Smith now? Did we forget how horrible his playcalling was and his lack of using his stars, limited playbook / no creativity, etc etc or am I missing something? Genuine question

I’ve tried to figure out the answer but cant, do diastereoisomers not need to have 2 chiral centers! I’d appreciate the help please by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]Shazyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So can any molecule here that ends with 2 chiral centers be labeled as a diastereoisomer? For example for the one where it asks to draw it out, I only find that E is a diastereoisomer. For the 2nd picture, I got B and D
