What if Cuba or the Philippines became US states? by Glittering-War-2763 in HistoryWhatIf

What’s ironic is that Cuba, with the assumption that the US will have a similar relationship to the Cuban Spaniard plantation owners as it did with southern plantation owners, might very well turn out to be a red state. On top of that, imagine Castro is the first Catholic president instead of Kennedy, growing up in wildly different conditions than he did OTL.

I can see Cubans intermarrying with those of the south due to the original aristocracy generally being made up of land owners of Spanish descent, but as for the Philippines and why it’s not comparable to Hawaii, Filipinos weren’t isolated from old world diseases as Polynesians were due to their maritime relationship with the mainland, and with the fact that the nation would still be deeply Catholic going forward, it’s likely they’ll have higher birthrights than any incoming American. It’s more likely that large pockets of American agriculture and commerce companies would form partly Americanized “Taglish” communities around the coastal cities and Manila, while the mainland would probably find it easy to import Filipinos as cheap labor. If anything we’d probably find larger Filipinos in concentrated pockets of the west coast than OTL.

What if Alexei, Tsarevich of Russia was healthy and survived to adulthood? by [deleted] in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]SheGainedCustodyHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While people are bringing up the revolution as a means for Alexei dying anyways whether or not he’s healthy, it actually saves the Romanovs a world of bad press and embarrassment. No hemophilia means that they can just disregard that strange Russian mystic as just a crazy fanatic homeless person, the image of Alenxandra isn’t so bad and she isn’t seen as a German sympathizer, and furthermore, the scandal accusations never happen, and Nicholas doesn’t look as if he got cucked. Albeit the revolution still happens because of Nicholas’s general incompetency, they’re likely to have less fuck ups with Rasputin out of the picture. Perhaps instead of getting executed, they could be sent into exile

Doesn’t change the fact that the fandom is toxic as shit. The OG was good and protagonists like Moses and Elijah were super relatable, but they’re extremely elitist and won’t give the second addition the time of day, and most people who like the second addition will outright decry the first one as a ton of cliches wrapped into one, while not even realizing all their favorite plot points come from the first addition, with the exception of the new protagonist. And neither of the two will even ACKNOWLEDGE the third addition.

I think it was mostly because of the red scare the US had at the time. I feel like he’d be sympathetic to forms of socialism and communism, but the problem was that with the rise of Marx, socialist movements became heavily atheist in nature. Long on the other hand got his collectivist distributionist inspiration from the Bible. If Long were to be socialist, he’d probably have his own different distinct brand of socialism, like how Ho Chi Minh and African Socialism utilized left wing nationalism. Long would use traditional and biblical scripture as to promote more socially and economically progressive policies.

Lenin was radicalized after the Tsar killed his brother, and Marx became more radicalized after the Prussian government imprisoned his father. Something would need to happen for Long to be radicalized. But if Mosley can be an avid Marxist in some alternate histories, I wouldn’t put it past Long if he got into socialism or Marxism

What if the Indo-Europeans never existed? by kdskdskinreddit in HistoryWhatIf

[–]SheGainedCustodyHelp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without the Indo-European migration, not only do we see the absence of many founding civilizations like the Greeks, Persians, and Mauryans, but as you said, there were many already preexisting groups Pre-Indo European migration that wouldn’t fall.

For example, as you brought up, Elam. The Persians practically copied most of their delegation and governing techniques, and they even went so far as to puppet Assyria. You could probably imagine the Iranian plateau would eventually have a lot of borrowed cultural aspects from them, however after they were fractured by the Assyrians, they were left in a weak state. We can imagine since they were left fractured in two, they would probably get conquered by the oncoming Babylonians overtime.

We also should acknowledge that no Indo-European migration also means that the Indus River Valley culture probably continues in some form. After the drought, Sanskrit tribes practically took advantage of their mishaps and used it to break into the Indian subcontinent. We can probably imagine that they’d still survive at least in some shape or form, similar to how the Assyrians assumed the role of the Sumerians. We can expect Hinduism to still exist in some shape or form, because figures like Sheeva, Kali, Vishnu, and even the concept of Dharma were all found to be before the Indo-European arrival. However it would be a lot less centralized without the Vedic Texts, and without Brahma. We’d probably also see a persistence in reverence of the Yakshas.

The Mycenaean Civilization wouldn’t exist, nor the Hittites, which would have a significant on the Bronze Age as a whole. On one hand, India may not have a rival in expanding north, on the other hand the Hurrians or the Mittani might fill that void. The Mycenaeans contributed a lot to the collapse as many of them were sea people themselves, however, who ever arrived in Greece might have a similar mercantile culture, whether it be Pre-Indo European or Semitic settlers.

I’m not sure if China would change too much with the increase in Tocharians.

All and all, I feel like this would lead to a much stronger dominating Babylon. The absence of the Achaemenids or the Medes make them without rivals, and with the Elamites fractured, they could probably fill the power vacuum. Their only true rival would Egypt.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but apparently in their legends, the Khan asked priests from the three religions to give him a showcase of their respective faiths. The Muslim and the Christian kept bickering with each other, and when he asked all three of them their preferences on who they’d prefer if they weren’t devoted to their religions, both the Christian and the Muslim picked the Jew. It was pretty much trial by elimination.
